ok, I know thats a silly title. But it was an exciting day between the cafe and this!
ever since I was a kid, I have missed un pasturized apple cider. the flavor is far superior, and you can taste the difference. so after going 100% raw I was determined to find some. Eventually, through the grapevine and google I found these guys. I went for the first time today, and it was worth the wait! I spoke to the owner, they pick the apples' specifically for the cider, power wash them with water, and then proceed in making the cider. amazing and delicious and not that far off of 91!

One of the local orchards here in Maine makes it too! It's unpasturized, treated with UV light for safety

We have one in Meriden CT that sells it-both pear and apple. The owner was raw vegan (don't think she still is) and homeschooled 5 kids!

I'm planning on heading up to Putney VT this morning for Putney Orchard's unpasturized cider. If they have enough, I'm gonna stock up and freeze some for later. :D
I love going there. The woman who runs it is a WONDERFULLY sweet woman. Last year when I was buying the apples in bulk she asked if I'd like to store them in her specially acclimated apple storage rooms, at no charge and then I could just go up there whenever I wanted and help myself. I was floored. Unfortunately that meant a 3 hour round trip for apples, so I thought the carbon footprint wasn't worth it, but I thanked her over and over.

What do orchards do that a rawbie with a juicer or mixer can't? Do they age it or something?

Actually as it happens that 'hard 'Cider is fermented apples or apple juice. Usually, if I am remebering this correctly, the apples are allowed to ferment for a period of time and then they are pressed or they are pressed then allowed to ferment. I can't remember which LOL. it actually has an alchol content.
as far as actual apple cider, it usualy contains numerous types of apples pressed into a juice and unfiltered. I know the cup I am drinking right now has at least 15 diff varaties of apples! :D soooo good.
But I am sure you could make your own! this is so intresting! I will deffinately be asking the owners about this next time I go!
