I've been off processed sugar/chocolate for almost eight days now and at this very moment I am surrounded by: chocolate brownies w/ thick chocolate frosting, chocolate kisses, fig newton cookies. They are not calling my name which is good, but I'm fighting with thoughts. I would like to know what you say to yourself when you are in unavoidable situations like this? The only thing stopping me is the little bit of weight I have dropped. Right now to be perfectly honest I am also broke and sugar always helped me through times like these.

I never buy it for my house...I'm at a place right now where I am surrounded.

For starters, I don't buy it. If I didn't buy it, then I tell myself whatever it is, is not mine and to eat it would be akin to stealing. Works for me!

Your post is hysterical Trinity, but I can completely relate. I will keep this in mind for the future if I ever need to have a lock and key.

i adore chocolate....
yesterday i was making a "carob syrup" from ani phyo's book (carob, olive oil, dates and some water) and then i put it in a fridge and it froze.... so it's like chocolate candy!! (maybe next time i'll just use cocoa instead of carob)
so this great thing has been keeping me away from all these Hersheys in the house :D

well i would recommend raw cacao, but i warn you, you will end up eating way too much of it. so do so at your own discretion lol

When I crave chocolate I make these cookies:
1/4 cup almonds
1/4 cup walnuts
1 tbsp raisins or 2-3 dates
1 tsp flax seeds
1 tsp orange juice
dash of sea salt
dash of cinnamon
1/2 tsp raw cacao
Process until it forms a thick crumbly dough, press into cookie shapes and either let them sit for about 30 mins or enjoy right away!

Don't bring it into your house or throw it in a big bag, stomp on it, smash it up and throw it away. Don't laugh, I've done it.
I can no longer digest it because of the diary products and other stuff in it. I'm cured I think because I tried to eat a Ghiradelli square the other day and it tasted horrible to me. Like I was chewing on pure sugar and I couldn't taste the chocolate. It takes time, but the day will come when you will want to have nothing to do with commercially overproduced chocolate sweets. Now grandma's brownies? That's another subject entirely.

I'll often let myself enjoy the smell of whatever it is, popcorn, bread, whatever. The smell is always way better than it will taste anyway.

It sounds like you are at work, and everyone has missed the point. Are you in a position where you could ask whoever brought the goodies into your parameters to move it to another area? It's always more tempting when you can smell it, and/or see others milling about it.
I'd also suggest if you get the nibbles, have something you CAN have and enjoy and really focus on the flavors, textures, etc - make it a sensual experience.
Good Luck!

like Dakini, i also can enjoy the smell. I know eating that-whatever it is- will make me feel sick and guilty. It's not worth it. But i do enjoy smells and can actually satisfy the craving sometimes like that (i work in the cafeteria here on campus...imagine all the crazy scents!)

There are chocolates and such in my office environment most of the time. If I don't even look at them, I'm much less tempted. If I walk toward them with the intention to indulge, I remind myself to go have something healthy instead and head over to the water fountain or a fruit bowl.

ahhh the smells. i love enjoying the smells without forcing my body to digest them LOL i go for walks and the bakery smells are just wonderful. i don't eat any breads/wheats - stopped about 6-8 months ago and before that, didn't eat all that much anyway... but the smells... they are fabulous!
so i just drink in those smells and tell myself that has satisfied me. and i usually listen when i hear myself say that. (self talk, gotta love it) and then i just walk away and create a feeling of happy, joyful satisfaction within myself.

hee....I love ya Beps! giggle
Temptation will ALWAYS be around you. Not just food temptations. It is about whether or not you make the choice to act on the temptation. For instance....a very basic analogy but you will get it......
if you are married and you see a hot man...you can choose to appreciate that he is a hot man and be content that you have your own special person at home waiting for you...or you can choose to act on the temptation. Which do you do and why? Food can be the same way. You can choose to eat it or not. You can try to remember why you choose raw and how nurturing it is to you...like your spouse is at home. If you feel nurtured you are less likely to stray to the cooked food.
And say you decide to eat the food,....the first two bites are the most tasty, after that the taste orgasm is gone. You finish eating the brownie in like a minute. And it takes you two weeks to get control again and two months to lose all the weight you regained in that two weeks of cooked binging. Was the one minute of pleasure worth it or not? Only you can decide.

Haha that was funny!
I totally feel your pain. I think about sweets like it's my job. Honestly it sucks cause its a constant battle with yourself. Stay strong.
When I see something that is defiantly not what I should eat I have started looking up the raw alternatives. Being that I am new to this I havent really even gotten to make any of them but I am amazed at all the things you can make in a healthy way and that kind of shifts my thoughts off the bad stuff to being curious about the raw options.
