Hi all,

so for the past year I have been skating in a local roller derby league. It is basically like football on roller skates. very intense, very physical and a lot of hitting and jostling.
i find that often when I come out of a 2 hour practice or intense scrimmage I feel really empty, woozy in the head (not gut) until I get some sufficient protein in and I have to admit my level of competitiveness and speed have both diminished

we have our first exhibition bout this saturday and I am hoping for some kick butt prep in the food dept. (no grains) Thanks:D

The empty and woozy feeling is probably due to low glycogen levels. You need to restore your glycogen storage with carbohydrates like fruits. If you are practicing for up to 2 hours you should try to get somthing sweet into you after an hour to an hour and a half of exercise and it will help prevent that crashed out, woozy feeling.

thanks...it is a weird feeling, like a concussion or something. the time I had it the worst I had to go the store and get some yogurt...I felt really strange (it was too late at night to run the blender and make a green smoothie) so I wasn't sure if it was protein or sugar

last night I ran the blender anyway :D and had a hemp and apple mix and felt fine

but DURING practice something very weird happened....I took a pretty good hit (illegal) hit from behind and fell on my tush (luckily not on my tail bone) it wasn't that bad of an injury but the impact really freaked me out apparantly and I immediately began hyper-ventilating and uncontrollably crying....I have never hyperventilated before in my life
It was a strange experience, I knew that I wasn't injured but my reaction was wild....could this be the same thing???

I had been away for ten days and had been eating way more sweet fruits than I typically do and not a lot of greens

I used some date water w/ a pinch of salt on a hard run today and felt great. Not sure if you have access to water bottles during your training, but you could drink some after your workouts... I just pour some date water in my bottle add a pinch of salt then add plain water to taste. If you have ever had sweet tea (from the south) it tastes a lot like that. :) Plus bring a banana w/ you and eat after your work outs.. will help glycogen restores. :)
