View Full Version : Am I drinking too little of wheatgrass juice?

I'm curious what you all think - those who know about wheatgrass, anyway. I've been faithfully juicing home-grown wheatgrass for about 3 weeks now, 1oz. each morning on an empty stomach and then I wait 30 min. at least to eat.

I wonder if that's even enough to make a difference? I got Ann Whitmore's wheatgrass book and she recommends 3-5 oz. per day. Yikes! I don't think I could grow that much, I'd need like trays & trays available at all times.

I just wonder if my measly little 1oz. per day is even making a difference....I feel like it is, but you know how it is when you want something to work...you can imagine that it is.

How much wheatgrass do you drink each day?

I do a mere one to three shots a week from the local health food cafe. That's enough for me, personally, with all of the green lemonade I drink at home. What are you trying to accomplish? If you have gray hair and want to put the color back in it, yes, drink considerably more and be patient with time. Cancer patient? Way more, up both ends (reference to wheat grass juice enemas). I just don't want to detox too hard too fast.

I'm curious what kind of lighting you're growing it under. Natural or indoor?

Ahhhhh hmmmm...that's a good question. What am I trying to accomplish? I suppose it's two things - first, being pregnant, I want to provide the most excellent nutrition I can for this baby. Second...I'm still reaching, reaching for the better health, feeling better than I do. So no specific reason, just a healthier body and a better, overall feeling.

No gray hair yet - I'm just 30. :p

I grow it in my kitchen which has no windows, and then when it's about 3 in. or so high, I put it on a windowsill that gets plenty of indirect sun and maybe 3-4 hours of direct sun per day. On a sunny day, that is.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I'm wondering if your body is intuitively guiding you to more wheat grass but it's a serious consideration to not cause detoxing while your pregnant. Are you familiar with that concept? That a woman doesn't want to release stored toxins with a change in diet while pregnant? I'd so highly recommend lots of cilantro to bind with mercury and move it out while you're pregnant and lots and lots of seaweed too.
Got any names picked out for the baby yet? How about Kale if it's a boy?

Awww Kale is totally cute!! But I actually happen to not like Kale at all - it's ruined many a smoothie for me because I put in too much. =( We're thinking of Jack so far, though.

Yes, I am familiar with not detoxing too much while pregnancy - which is also why I haven't done any fasts. I think Nature's First Food has seaweed in it - I take 1 T. of that per day, and also 1 T. of MSM. I have some nori rolls but I've never touched them...I just have never liked that fishy taste and always hated seafood except for salmon & tuna in the can. =)

I don't know if I can really trust my body yet to tell me what to eat since I keep falling off the wagon & eating SAD here & there....it seems like more after 2-3 months of being 100% you could trust your body. I'm totally craving orange juice but I'm afraid of drinking too much, like I could live on it!! That would bring out the detox I think...

Is it fresh orange juice? I'd go with that sister. Listen to that good craving- "Mama- I need Vitamin C!"

I love wheatgrass. It's time you upped your does to two shots. You can't drink too much wheatgrass, but you do have to build a tolerance as it is so healthy and cleansing. When I go running I will only take one shot afterwards and run the rest of the way home. Once I took two shots and I thought I was going to become ill. It just makes you glow and is preventative medicine...everything Ann Wigemore speaks about.

Ha ha!! Yeah, this baby boy is going to looooooooove OJ! And yeah, it's fresh squeezed ~ my handy dandy wheatgrass juicer is perfect for juicing oranges FAST with quick cleanup - yum! I went to the farmer's market and bought a 38lb box for $30 today......problem is, my kids love it too! I have to sneak it when they're not looking if I don't want to go broke, LOL. =)
