Hi all I would really appreciate some feed back from some of you who may have been in a similar boat or even from some of the really smart people out there:)
I am wondering if anyone knows what is happening physically in our bodies when you eat an apple and than just want to go to sleep.
This morning I had a green smoothie and was fine (apple kale lemon).
Than a large piece of pesto lasagna and was fine.
Than a small sesame raw cracker and was fine.
Than had an apple on my way to pick up my daughter from preschool around 11:00am and felt like I was going to pass out and fall asleep driving!!
I think it might be hypoglycemia related but my doctor tested for that and did not get a positive result for that. Can one be mildly hypoglycemic?
When I got home I had a nice sprout salad with some zucchini hummus and a quarter avocado and a few Brazil nuts and all raw tabouili salad with sprouted quinwa. I started to feel better after that lunch and now at 2:00 feel pretty fully recovered from the apple episode.
What is going on?? Ideas
Also, if it is hypoglycemia and I do have to lay off the fruit for a while any ideas for how to not get board with just greens veggies and nuts? Or how to satisfy the sweet tooth with out the poison apple (fruit)?

Apples make you sleepy? I've never heard that one before.
I've noticed that, lately, I get very sleepy after eating cooked food. My mom's theory is that my body is having to work harder to digest it and pull the nutrients out. Perhaps something similar is happening with you and apples. If you're sensitive to them, you may be having some sort of mild allergic reaction. It could be your body's way of sending you a message.

It could be your body's way of sending you a message. It could be but I think if you were have a reaction to the apples the message your body would send would be more of a distress signal like not feeling well or stomach distress, something like that. I find the "sleepy" puzzling.

Do you always have this reaction to eating apples by themselves? If not, then maybe you actually were just tired:O)

Was the apple organic? I have read that apples are infused with some kind of chemicals and stored in warehouses for years to stay fresh so the chemicals make them seem fresh all year 'round. I believe it is true because I noticed that the grocery ads now put in small print underneath that the item is a fresh crop. Actually I am wondering if they are considered food grade chemicals can they still label it organic? (Dont' trust anything anymore  ) Plus the pesticides on their skins. So many possibilities to consider makes it difficult to determine.
All the creations you describe make me want to come eat at your house!

i like to make my smoothies with bananas (they slow release for me cuz the fiber), a couple stalks of celery, a handful of some sort of green, a handful of alfalfa, cress, or sunflower sprouts, a tbsp flax, the watery fruit of my choice, and water. the fiber really releases the energy at a nicer rate. unless i need a really good burst of energy. all depends.

DH has blood sugar issues and his first reaction to anything "bad" is sleepy. Same way you got...he can't hold his eyes open it's so overwhelming. Were you checked for both hypo- AND hyper- glycemia? Maybe it was just the amount of sugar overall in your system...it could have been the final straw in regards to the amount your body could handle at that moment?

-luckitri- yup 95% of our fruit and veggies are organic.
-Lizabethian- I think you got it on the nose. It happened again later in the day after I posted but this time after three very sweet figs and a teaspoon fudge ball (date and almond butter mix). It is an overwhelmingly sleepy fatigue my arms and legs feel three times as heavy and I feel as though I mumble and all I want to do is lye down. I have had similar reactions to starches and pasteurized fruit juices in the past. I was really hopping it was something else going on and not the fruit because doing the raw thing while avoiding fruit is a pain in the butt! But I will take the suggestions of mixing in lots of fiber with the fruit (thank you raw surfer)and maybe try to avoid it until later in the day. I have also been craving celery and just when to the store to stock up. the celery taste slightly sweet for some reason, I never noticed that before.
I was just checked for hypoglycemia, isn't hyperglycemia diabetes? Does anyone know the difference between the two?
Do people eventually lose issues with hyper or hypoglycemia on the raw diet. I really would like to have my energy back. being a lump with no energy is unacceptable when you have two young kids like I do
Thanks for all the responses

i am insulin resistant and so really watch my sugars,
apples do not bother me because they seem to have enough fibre content themselves, but anything higher glycemic i make sure to mix with greens or fat. so like a banana with hemp. or, like you said, when you had your apple in a green smoothie, you were fine--- that would have been the greens slowing down the sugar of the apple.

I think that most people lose it. I have never been diagnosed. I just know that when I started last year I really had no interest in any kind of fruit. Now I can have it but not too much.

I've heard that our sense of taste can sometimes change or be affected as the body works to achieve balance - perhaps this is why celery is suddenly tasting sweet bananapie.

before i went raw apples on an empty stomach would make me feel like i was dying of hunger....like my stomach would just growl and rumble and hurt like i hadnt eaten in days! i havent had that problem lately, but it sounds like a blood sugar issue to me.

DH and his mom (who does have diabetes) both have a hard time with staches. Where you mention you have a hard time with corn I would double check any blood sugar issues. They have a hard time with corn as well. When we first switched to being vegetarian he seemed to have more issues with trigger foods. Same with our first week on raw. It doesn't seem to be as frequent anymore.
If it is a blood sugar issue, until you get it all figured out, you can add in cinnamon (not sure if you can that raw). It can slow down or stop a reaction pretty quick. My mother in law just takes capsules of it. No idea how much or how often though. We've added it onto our almonds before to add a bit of flavor.
