So what's the scoop on olives? Can I eat olives that are sold in jars from the HFS? I've been raw 4 months and still don't know about the olives!

I am not to sure myself but, I have considered the ones in cans definitely off limits and even the ones in jars may have been heated to seal the jar. Salt cures olives are probably the safest bet because the salt kills everything so processors don't have to worry about heating to seal jars but this is really just an educated guess on my part. I know that olives can be bought in bulk in big five gallon buckets and I am wondering if those are the best bet for not being heated. California has a blooming olive industry and you might be able to find a producer there that could assure you of quality processing, and handling of the product.
I will be interested to see what others in the group have to say.

Hi I always buy the ones that are labelled raw. They're cured with celtic sea salt too. I think the regular ones use iodized salt, and heat. Adam's Olive Ranch is a great brand and there are some others. Maybe you could ask your HFS to order in? http://www.adamsoliveranch.com/

Alissa sells black & green olives on her site. I liked the green ones because they were spicy, but the black ones..."eh". (Although others in the class gobbled them up). But yes, unless they are labeled raw...they're most likely not. Hope that helps.
