well,
I had people over for breakfast before church... I ate several bananas, carob fudge balls and some of my soupy cheesecake this morning but was hungry for "cooked" food.. sooo I ate pineapple and went to the mall and asked for a banana mango smoothie with nothing but fruit and water (yuck) I drank tons of water.
Later I went to my aunts house for our usual Sunday dinner. I ate carrot sticks, and sat in a chair thinking about the tons of other food on the table. I had the shakes, started to sweat, and thought I was going to pass out... (anxiety?)
I got up in almost a panic and went into the kitchen: I ate 10 potato chips WITH dip, 4 baby pickles, 6 black olives, and 4 small squares of cheese...
It WAS day 7 of raw for me... now I start over???
this is hard, I am soo hungry and my green smoothies make me gag, I hate the consistency.. I am starting to hate bananas and apples which sucks because that is what I can afford...
ughhh, anyone else been here...

No worries!!!! You are doing fine! No need to start over, just pick yourself up and start again. Jes' keep walking towards the goal. Temptations are always going to be there... (((BIG HUG))) Have you tried frozen cherries, mango, blackberries etc. They're fairly reasonable and make a darned good smoothie. ( :

Opinion: Everyone is different. Chinese say: Fall down 7 times - get up 8. If immediate 100% causes you acute anxiety and lapses...then set smaller goals and keep them. The important thing is whatever puts you in a grateful, joyful, successful, mature, and generous frame of mind. Anything else will not net you results in the long run. You cannot add up 100 sufferings....and derive ONE happiness. Just doesn't work that way! LOL.

Great post David....this is a process and nothing is written in stone. You ate what you ate and it;s over, no need to beat yourself up or make yourself crazy about it. 6 days raw is great...today make the choices that you know will bring you closer to where you want to be. To me the "all or nothing" attitude is aholdover from sad dieting days. be kind to yourself and let eating the cooked food go..focus instead on seeing the beautiful, nourishing raw food available to you. Focus and attitude make your walk so much easier.

It's only one day out of 7. You still have 6 successful days under your belt so it's not the end of the world. Just try not to let one day spoil the rest of the month.

I really do not stress as much about being 100% raw, but I do make sure that I eat mostly raw. I read a lot of raw books and this helps keep me motivated and gives me so much more knowledge about the food I eat. Also you really have to like the food you eat to enjoy it, and I believe that you should enjoy eating food. So if you don't like something move on to something you do like.

I've been thinking about the title of your post...and believe me I do understand it. Personally I feel so much better when I am eating 100% raw...but it is so much an ongoing process. Only YOU decide what works for you and what is ok and not ok on your raw path. They say confession is good for the soul...but so is forgivness, letting go and moving on, listening to your own voice and knowing there are no food police who are standing over you waiting for you to reach for unraw food.:)
Only you and what works for you or doesn't....only learning as you go~:)

For the past 4 days w/my dad visiting, it has been SO hard to eat raw. I have messed up more times than not. Don't sweat it! I agree w/ setting smaller goals for yourself or perhaps not even fully 100% right off the bat. Maybe "raw until the evening meal", then ease into 100%.:)

Hey, Meg.June!
I just started raw recently, too, and what helps me is if I go to someone's house, I'll pack a raw trail mix (raw cashews, goji berries, raw almonds, some dried unsulfured papaya & pineapple bits, etc) in a tupperware & take it with me...Or my favorite - baby carrots to dip in a small tupperware of tahini mixed with honey...just something that I can pull out when everyone else is eating & eat right along with them, too!
Also, when you feel absolutely full of craving...drink a tall glass of water (with ice cubes)...it'll keep you mouth busy and usually the craving will pass after a few minutes.
But lieke everyone said, don't beat yourself up over it...Dust off and start again right from that moment...You're on a journey and it takes time to reach your destination...But above all, enjoy the trip to the fullest!!

Make you gag huh?
Put more fruit in them they should be sweet, banana added will make them smooth and not taste so grainy. Blend them longer for smoother consistency. My family hates it, it's so loud but I blend them a long time at least a minute or two. I don't have a vitamix and so I must blend for a longer time.
Other combos that are good are pears and parsley. Also a real good one is lemon a third of a whole lemon skin and all, along with apples and what ever greens.
The first few weeks I made green smoothies I added about a tablespoon of maple syrup or honey until I started to like the greens. I also used very mild greens romaine lettuce, red leaf etc and eventually after a few weeks worked my way into the darker kales swiss chard and spinach.
Hope that helps
My four year old will only have pink smoothies! frozen strawberries, cherries or raspberries with one twig of parsley but that is where she is right now and it is better than nothing eventually she might do more greens and eventually you may like them more too but don't beat yourself up over it just do what you can and go lighter on the green part until they taste good than you can work your way up to more when your taste buds have adjusted.
Take care

thank you! This Green Smoothie thing is driving me crazy, I feel like I am on the quest for the perfect GS and can't seem to find it, the last one I made was so bad I made my teenage son drink it (nothing phases him) it was chunky and grainy, yuck!

OK...meg.june....your smoothie quest is bothering me too!!! I love, LOVE, LOVE green smoothies. This is how I make mine, hoping that it will help you. First I put the greens with water in the blender and blend for awhile.....make sure you get those greens chopped to NOTHING but liquid (also the GREEN may make a difference...I use baby spinach, but use something mild like the spinach or romaine lettuce even)
Now, I add a banana or two (frozen in chunks) with about a cup of fruit that is also frozen.....and blend until smooth and creamy!!
Hope this helps...
Also, as time goes on, you can add a leaf or two of "heavier" lettuces like kale, but don't try those right away!!

TO EVERYONE- Thank you in regards to my GS dilema and my day 7 failure (and now I add day 9 failure I ATE CHEESE!!!) ughhhh
well, then I got tvillemom's (Wendi) post and I followed it exactly and guess what... (I just wish I had received the post prior to my cheese) it was awesome, I even got my seventeen year old son to have a GS slamming contest with me (he won- but hey, I got him to drink it- hee hee)
my smoothie was : baby spinach 6 handfulls, left over pieces of pinapple, 2 apples, 1 pear, 1 carrot, 1/4 cucumber, 2 FROZEN bananas (the key). except for the spinach and banana I juiced everything else and blended forever (the other key) it was cool, smooth and yummy. oh and I added a tbsp lemon juice and a few tbsps of honey...
thank you thank you thank you!!!

Hi Meg June
I'm still pretty new too and it seems like every seven or eight days I cave and eat something SAD. I'm hoping to get by this point next week without giving in. I just caved last night. It really happens when I try to go out to eat with my boyfriend and his kids. I'm gonna try and not go next time until I get my cravings under control.
But like everyone else has said--don't beat yourself up--you've been eating very well up until your slips and that's a plus. Just wake up and start a new day eating raw again and maybe both of us will go longer and longer without a slip and eventually ours bodies won't want that icky food!
As far as gs go --this is what I do:
Take a large handful of baby spinach and a little kale witha about one cup of water
I blend this first until its totally liquid--then I put in alittle crushed ice
then add one apple
one pear or nectarine
one orange rind cut off
little piece of ginger root peeled
one banana
Blend until smooth
just mix up your fruit a little -today I used a bunch of strawberries instead of a nectarine.
When I first started drinking gs I had a hard time with the looks of them. I had to purposely not look the smoothie while drinking and pretend it was red or tropical yellow!
Sounds silly---but I had to really concentrate on the taste, not the looks.

That is an interesting combo, I will have to try it. I have no ginger so I have to buy some. The funny thing is the color doesn't bother me it is the consistency. thanks for the tips.

For the past few months Ive hit this bump in the road at the end of every week. I have a routine during the week which keeps me busy but once the weekend comes I find the couch and tv and FOOD. Its a terrible cycle.
I just passed the one week mark of going raw and on the late evening of day 6 I lost my mind. I had a ton of cereal, bread and a scoop of ice cream. Now normally being that it is late in the week I would have just said oh looks like I biffed this week and kept eating bad until monday but this time I just realized its one day. Its not going to ruin everything I did and I jumped right back on track.
So keep your head up and put it behind you!;)

Don't worry, you're doing great. Re the green smoothies, perhaps it's best to leave 'em alone if you hate 'em. Compulsive eaters like me must remind ourselves not to keep eating something if we're just doing so mechanically and not enjoying it. But that's sage advice for people who don't have eating disorders too. This process should be enjoyable!
Solongng00dnite--good for you!! That's always been my downfall. All or nothing! Good for you for jumping right back on track!

Thank you . Really if you just stop, take a minute to think about it, its not as bad as it originally seemed. Which makes it easier to move on
