Accckkkk!

I just went to the health food store and bought two young coconuts. I have never tried them before and have heard such fantastic things about them. As far as my raw journey goes...I have been using the older brown coconuts.

Soo, I get home, open up my new glorious young coconut...and bluck! The smell wasnt that appetizing. Now, I was completely prepared for the texture, no problem there...(kinda like tofu) But the taste...eeeew...kinda saltly, kinda savory...not sweet at all....and no yummy coconut aroma that I so love.

Anyway...my question is.....are young coconuts supposed to smell 'savory'? I thought it would smell and taste like a coconut....it doesnt. They are fresh...no mildew etc...

Please please...I would love some advise. I sooo wanted to be in love with young coconuts. :D

Thanks,

I find the young coconut juice to taste mildly sweet and the pulp to not have much taste. An interesting thing happens when you put the juice and the pulp together in the blender. They get a much stronger and sweeter taste. Its like a synergism effect. I have eaten many young coconuts and I have found the taste to vary from one to the next but always to have a pleasant taste with one exception, one time I got a bad coconut. The bad one had a distinct vinegar taste to it, not the pleasant taste I am used to. Now I always take a small taste of the juice as soon as i open one to check for a bad one. I suggest that with the other one (you said you got two) you put both the juice and the pulp into the blender and see if you like it that way.

Thanks!
I will definately give it a try with the second one. The first one I drank as much of the water as I could stand. ;) Then I chopped up the meat and froze it for later. Even though I couldnt stand the smell...I am determined to use it and love it, LoL :D

Thanks again!
