My coconut oil jar says the following: Organic, NON-GMO, Cold-pressed, Pure extra virgin, 62% MCT's, medium chain triglycerides (fatty acids) including high in Lauric Acid, unrefined, non-hydrogenated, sweet aroma, delicious tasting
The last one makes me laugh a little.......
Oh, and the brand is South Pacific - "Coconut Company"
Hope this helps!

I think your coconut oil is OK. If it says "cold pressed, unrefined, extra virgin"
I would try to get it on line; the artisana one I use can get pretty expensive if I bought it in stores all the time!

I also find that it depends on what you're using it for.....I have the Artisana coconut butter as well, but I use it for recipes, as I find it gives a richer flavour, and adds a nice creamy texture to dishes.....whereas I use the coconut oil solo.....I melt it in a shot glass, and take 1 tbs. per day.....but that's just me!

I do the opposite!!! I find that the Nutriva is great in recipes (I can't stand the taste) because it melts easily and gives fudges/mousses/etc a nice firm ganache texture. And I love the artisana off the spoon or better yet made into a quick "frosting" for bananas (coconut butter, cacao and agave ~yumm)
btw~ you're my hero if you can take that in a shot glass  I just can't take the flavor!
lol...well I guess we're giving everyone all the options! :)

Ha ha Angelina, yep, different strokes for different folks! Oh, and the face I make when I take the "shot" is not that of someone who enjoys it ;)! But I figure that's the best way to get it down as fast as possible! Oh, and your frosting sounds yum-o, I'll have to try that!

Is there a big price difference?? I'm wondering why you buy two different kinds of oil, instead of just using the one you consider to be the best tasting al the time???
Thanks by the way, the coconut oil I bought says unrefined, cold pressed, extra virgin coconut oil.....and I cheated and pulled open the paper protector off the lid (while I was in the store:o ) and it smells lucious...so I can't wait to try it in a recipe....maybe some carob fudge...or avo/carob pudding!!! YUMMY!!

I buy 2 different kinds because the oil costs less than the butter, per oz., and like I said, I like to use the butter in recipes (which I don't make as often, so it lasts longer), and I remember StarFire (the coconut Queen!) saying she tried taking the butter as she does the oil, and she gained on the butter. It may not be the same for everyone, but I didn't want to take any chances, so I stick with the oil to take orally. That's just me though!

I buy the two for the same reasons - cost and taste! The Artisana is a bit more expensive, tastes better and has fiber! I haven't experience weight gain with it (I do have hypothyroid and I think it does help), I would use the oil on a daily basis, but I just can't choke it down!!! lol..when I do have it on hand, I'll sometimes add it to smoothies.... I definitely do like the texture the butter gives to fudges - out of this world!

I'm not sure....I get mine at my local health food store, and I've also seen it in the grocery store, in the "health food" section....
KittyMommy - If I'm not mistaken, all coconut oil is solid at room temp.....to soften/liquefy, put hot water (not boiling) in a bowl, and put the jar in the bowl until it liquefies.

I just love that brand Alissa sells. I just dip a spoon in it and eat it plain, what a luxury. Funny how different taste buds are.

For those of you who like the Nutiva brand, here's a link to the best price ever on it:
http://www.vitacost.com/Nutiva-Organic-Extra-Virgin-Coconut-Oil
Vitacost has extremely low shipping and also sells items like the fo-ti and stevia that some of you use.
