Hi Everybody !!
I'm new here and new to forums as well, and am slowly finding my way around.
But I have a burning question... With all the strict rules for food combining, it seems that none apply to smoothies and juice drinks. Can someone please explain? Mind you, I'm not complaining, because without the oranges, limes or lemons in my drinks, I would never be drinking kale, chard, spinach or parsley for breakfast ... or ever probably !!!

First of all I'm so glad you are here! You will be sure to find support and answers to your questions. I personally try not to worry about food combining in smoothies. most of mine consist of mega amounts of greens, banana (or avo if I'm not in a sweet mood), berries or tropical fruit, coconut oil or maybe a handful of soaked almonds or cashew. I have yet to experience a digestive problem with smoothies, other things that involve poor combinations- yes, but not smoothies. I hope this encourages you. Good luck!

When I first got to RFT I had this same question about food combining principals and green smoothies. I have been a strict follower of food combining since the middle 1980's when I read the book "Fit For Life" by the Diamonds and it helped me get past some serious digestion problems. Because the food combining principals they presented in their book worked so well for me I have continued to follow their teachings all of the years since. What I have learned that I have added to my program is that green vegetables like leafy greens and celery can be combined with fruit without a problem and in fact they seem to work just fine for me. Here is one of the reasons I decided to try GS:

Place your cursor over each fruit group and check out the Wolfe clinic info.
I think a large part of why the GS works OK is that it is blended. Blending (especially with a vitamix) breaks down the food so that it can be easily digested. I appreciate that we as individuals are all different and because the GS works OK for me dosn't mean it will work OK for everybody. You will need to experiment with GS to see if it works for you.

I have never had a problem with food combining when it comes to smoothies. I mix fruits, greens and fats (coconut oil) usually. I digest all this very easily.

My 2 cents worth:
I heard the greens and fruit work great together and that chimpanzees sometimes mix their fruit with their vegetables. It seems natural.
Putting fat in with vegies such as avocados or oils actually helps the body assymilate the nutrients.
Obviously the comination works great because so many people thrive on the combinations rather than get sick.
Well, O.K. maybe that was just a penny's worth :)
