View Full Version : Bone Dying - Need Help

Recently I went to a denture clinic several states away and got my last 9 teeth pulled and new dentures. It was a decision I had grappled with for about 6 years. The teeth were in horrible condition. I knew that with the proper nourishment they would heal. Many times they would get better only to take a turn for the worse with a recurring extremely acidic addiction. So they had begun crumbling and I had them pulled.

One spot on my gums was swollen twice the size of the rest and kept hurting like an exposed nerve. When the stitches came out and the swelling went down the gums pulled away from that area and it looked for all the world like a broken off tooth. I could feel 3/4 of the way around the outside of it with my tongue.

The dentist said over the phone that it was probably a piece of bone and he would remove it without charge if I would come back in. This would have entailed renting another car, two tanks of gas, someone taking off to drive me, and renting a motel room. With all that expense I decided to see a local dentist.

It was my jaw bone which was broken, had become abscessed, and is dying. The dentist got out his digital camera and took pictures! He clipped off what he could get to and filed it down. Then pulled the gum over it and sewed it up.

Apparently the bone must be broken in two places for it to stick straight up like a tooth. At any rate he said it will continue to die and come to the surface. I will have to have this same procedure repeated probably for 6-8 weeks.

He of course gave me a perscription for antibiotics, which I have not taken. I have knowledge of bacteria and their feeding habits. There is no more nerve pain and seems to be no infection. The gum is healing as well as any time I've ever had dental work. He also handed me a bottle of rinse to swish with. When I looked at the ingredients it is alcohol based so I've also declined to use it. I have been swishing with coconut oil for 15 or so minutes each morning hoping to remove some of the toxins and then rinsing with baking soda water to remove any remaining toxic oil.

I am not allowed to wear my teeth until this is healed. I wore the uppers for a meeting last night reasoning that they would not touch the sore area. I always keep my jaws loose anyway, something I trained myself to do decades ago to avoid headaches, TMJ and such. The upper denture must stretch the mouth so that the lower jaw is still affected because after an hour or so I was contemplating removing it. The meeting was only 1 hr 45 min so I lasted it out. The teeth have a resting place now though until this is over.

Before leaving the dentist he said for me to go directly to the store and get a supply of ensure, boost, or like product for my sole nourishment. I have been drinking fruit smoothies and green smoothies instead. Dr Walker's juice book says that dandelion and turnip green juices are both very good for nourishing bones. I don’t have either and haven't the energy to forage the dandelion greens. I have a question anyway if anyone knows. I read years ago that what we call dandelion down here really is a totally different plant called cat's ear by others I believe. Would it have the same properties? I think I'll just order Alissa's dried greens with a "plethora of nutrition", seems like they have dandelion in them.

It sounds like I've rejected everything the dentist said, which is partially true. He means only what is best I believe.

Any constructive thoughts on the matter would be appreciated. I would like to heal in the best way and least time possible, with the least problems.

Still smiling, hopes for better times ahead,
Teri :)

Do not know answer to dandelion question.

I read somewhere here that the carrot soup recipe (from Garden Granny ?) is bone-building.

2 cups carrot juice
1 inch ginger
1 clove garlic
1 avocado
1 teasp curry

I remember a friend having similar problem with his jaw and they told us that it was due to long term use of some Rx. He took traditional allopathic method to healing.

gunna have to look around. many herbs have been suggested for osteoporosis and I am thinking they would probably also be good for your situation.

You are going through something......I feel your pain, your grief.

Sure I would get Alissa's Greens for Now. Look up Dandelion on the Internet, I am sure someone sells Seeds and you can Sprout and GROW your own............

Take the antibodics and get plenty of REST...

Love yourself through this......AND THIS TOO SHALL PASS.............

Thank you both for your thoughts and advise.

I looked them up last night in my plant books. Dandelion is Taraxacum officinale, what we call dandelion here in FL is Hypochoeris radicata Linnaeus. The book doesn’t say anything about the second being edible. It doesn’t have many leaves anyway. Although it can be found in most any yard, I always wondered how anyone found enough to put leaves in their smoothies daily. That’s how, it’s a different plant. The real dandelion has as many leaves on one plant as we would find in a whole yard of our ‘dandelions’.

A wise man (my father) once said to me, "Things always change. They may get worse before they get better, but they will change. Nothing ever stays the same." I miss my daddy. I still have his words though. :)

Doe, I was just reading Victoria Boutenko's July issue. She had a severely deteriorated jaw. In 2 years she has healed it with 2 quarts green smoothies daily with the emphasis on dandelions as she puts it. (hmmm . . . . . and I thought I was doing well to get down 80 oz.!)

So you are on the right track.

My HFS - part of Whole Foods but different name - usually carries dandelion greens. They are not the same as the ones I grew up with on the East Coast so I just have to trust.

Luckitri, if they are sold in the HFS as being edible the surely are. There are likely different varieties of the plant. I'll go read her newsletter. Thanks.

There are likely different varieties of the plant.I am not aware of any dandelions that are not edible. Has anyone got any information on this ?

EZ rider, plants in the Taraxacum (dandelion) family should all be edible. What we call dandelion here is a look a like but not the real thing of the Hypochoeris family. Totally different plant. Don't know if it's edible or not.
