Ok, I know green smoothies are talked about all the time but I have some questions for you RAW veterans.

I love the Green Smoothies, and I find myself always eating the same greens (Spinach).

Do you think that is ok or should I mix up the greens? I had one with Romain and it was a bit strong? Maybe I put to much Romain in it.

Also, I am just starting out and I have Alissa's book, what recipes do you recommend for someone who gets lost in the kitchen?

Thanks so much,

Thomas (bigDadda)

Hi Thomas,
I am not a raw food veteran but I read that it is better to mix up your greens so you get different nutrients. What I have done is add more bananas if the taste is too strong. After a while you just get used to the taste and need less sweetness. Also if you look at page 63 of Alyssa's book she provides a shopping list and recipes for a week and week 1's recipes are fairly simple. I tried them all and enjoyed them. I hope this helps and good luck to you!

Yeah. Try all kinds. If it's too strong, throw in another piece of fruit. I also add things periodically like coconut oil, spirulina, maca, raw cacao, sprouts, tomatoes that really want to be eaten right now, etc. Mess around with them---it's fun! ;)

I just started green smoothies. I started with bananas, spinach and water. Now I'm trying bananas, kale and blueberries. I have also added green whole food powder! I am gonna try romaine next!

Thanks Guys & Gals for the quick replies, I am truley grrrateful!

I will just try and add more fruit to the non spinach smoothies until I get used to them. I am sold on the benefits of the greens so I want to make it work.

I was looking for some spirulina but the grocery stores here (Houston, TX) seem to just have protein shakes that have spirulina in it. Where do you buy spirulina?

Thanks so much,

You can get it from a health food store or order it online.

Another option to get greens is to juice them. You can get a snoot full of greens in a big glass of freshly made juice. If you havn't tried a glass of celery juice or romaine juice you should try it sometime.

There are a LOT of green smoothie recipes on this forum if you search, but some of my favorites have just been when I've gotten creative!
