View Full Version : Dehydrators and Dogs

Has anyone has a problem with a dehydrator distressing their dog? I mixed a batch of carrot pecan burgers, put them in my very old dehydrator (the round type with stacked shelves). Shortly after plugging it in, my standard poodle started pacing. At first, I thought she was having tummy problems. She went over to the stairs to the second floor of our house and waited for me. She lead me to our bedroom and she lay down. Very odd behavior. I took her back downstairs, and within a few minutes, she went back upstairs. Later, after unplugging the unit, I went to bed. The next day, she was downstairs with me, being her normal goofy self. Immediately after I plugged the unit in, she went back upstairs. I did a test. I unplugged the unit and called her downstairs. She stood in the hallway for about a minute, then came into the family room and lay on the couch next to me. About 15 minutes later, I plugged the unit in again. She took off upstairs! I'm thinking it is putting out some type of high frequency noise I cannot hear. Anyone had this problem?????

Carol,

I have the same type of dehydrator but have not experienced this phenomenon with my dog or cats. I am thinking that maybe the fan is giving off a high pitched tone that my be distressing the dog. See if its ears raise when you turn it on. If it is the noise you may have dust build-up on the blades of the fan. You may be able to blow this dust off with one of those
co2 dusters for pcs.

The only problem I have with my beagle & dehydrator combo is that he sits under it and waits for anything to drop to the floor so he can snarf it down.

One time he didn't wait and stole all of the cinnamon poptarts!
Knocked the entire tray to the floor. I'll bet that once your pooch discovers there are raw scooby snacks inside...he'll have a change in attitude.
