Anyone taking either supplements? I kinda know what digestive enzymes are for but what about HCL (Hydrochloric acid) ?
I just know you take it if you have low stomach acid...

I've been taking enzumes and HCL along with some other digestive aids for a couple months. Im trying to heal my digestive tract...it doesn't work!! I have no idea if the supplements I'm taking are helping or not. I'm not sure how long it takes before seeing any benefits.

Thanks for your help.
I was told that the best digestive enzymes to take is bectain HCL with pepsin
This is what a typical digestive enzyme program would be:
Meal 1: Take 1 capsule (500-700 mg) at the beginning of your meal.
Meal 2: Take 2 capsules at the beginning of your meal.
Meal 3: Take 3 capsules at the beginning of your meal.
Meal 4: Take 4 capsules; two at the beginning of your meal and two in the middle of each meal

When I started raw, I was using HCL. After a while, I found I didn't need it anymore.
Also, I believe pepsin is animal based and haven't used it myself.

Once you are raw for a while, you most likely will not need digestive enzymes or HCL. The world (SAD) says that HCL production decreases with age, however that is because , in my no reasearch study done OPINION, they are eating SAD foods that come in a box with enzyme inhibitors in them. Most of the SAD population is popping the purple pill or TUMS at the least which decreases HCL. I believe that the body eventually gets tired of making HCL if it's being inhibited and will move on to other orders of business.
Raw has all of the enzymes your body needs to digest the food, but your body may need some help in the beginning especially if you are coming off of a highly processed diet. Enzymes do help with gas.. If you are taking them to heal your digestive tract and they have not worked , you may want to change enzymes. They are not all created equal. I love a product made by Allegany Nutrition because it is very concentrated and it's all plant.

Before going raw, I ate zantac like candy. Starting on Day 1 of raw, I didn't need any more zantac. Twas amazing. :)
But I also started on Day 1 with a green superfood powder that has a bunch of enzymes in it. I'm sure that helped.

Marcus, I was the same but it was Prilosec, 2-3 a day! After the first day of raw I didn't take it anymore.

I have taken Digestive enzymes in the past - ran out recently (just as I was running out of $$) and I definitely recommend them - I say the more enzymes our body gets the better. I definitely notice a difference without them - I was taking systemic enzymes and digestive. they really squashed cravings for me, which tells me I was really low on enzymes to begin with

My naturopathic docter told me that I needed digestive enzymes. But I truly do not know which ones? I did find that plant enzymes are excellent!
What are the diff. between pancreatic enzymes and digestive enzymes. DO I need both?
Also, would it be best if I ONLY used Papaya enzymes between meals to improve digestion?
IN addition of taking these enzymes to improve digestion, I was also needed them to gain weight and I was told to take HCL, pepsin and d. enzymes and this will help the situation.

Pancreatic enzymes are not vegan - so if you are, you're better off with plant enzymes. I read the book the Enzyme cure and she recommends plant enzymes - but I can't remember why
Enzymes will basically help with weight gain or loss - because if you need enzymes it means you are not digesting your food properly and absorbing all the nutrients from them.
I'm not sure about the papaya between meals, I think it works best with meals.
systemic enzymes are used between meals or on an empty stomach.

I am taking that purple pill because the doctors took me off the stuff from the natruoapath had given me to put me on all kinds of meds when I had the stroke in mid March! I hate taking the 2 high blood pressure meds and the high cholesterol meds too, as well as one for thyroid!
They insist that the ND was killing me with the natural supplements!!! So, I am currently appeasing my doctors and family while poisoning myself with these meds.
At least the doctor is not opposed to using more natural things when my numbers get down a bit more which I hope will happen IF and WHEN I am able to eat really raw! But that won't happen unless I am walking and being more independent.

Thank You so much!
Know I do need to put on weight and I guess thats what the enzymes are for b/c I cant seem to absorb my nutrients.
Do you think plant enzymes are best for this solution?

plant enzymes are definitely a good choice. Pancreatic enzymes are harvested from the intestines of cows or pigs and I'm just not willing to think of how they come about them.

Source Naturals makes a Vegetarian Pancreatin Enzyme, if you feel you need that.
