ok if i am to go on with this past day 4, i HAVE to get some help here please.

i get up, ok, i have my smoothie...about 10 minutes later i start crying, shaking, feeling very weak, dizzy, trembling,...this is clearly some sort of fruit thing. i dont have it when i eat fruit after something else, it is when i am hungry. ie. on an empty stomach. when my blood sugar is low. i guess.

i did the raw diet for 2 years before and this was my major problem on it.i never got over it, abnd it meant half my life was feeling terrible. now what should i do about this? it is crippling right now. its anything really juicy and sweet that does it. the nice stuff.

what i had to do was quit eating fruit so i was left with raw veg. not much fun. please help me darlings, cos i am really in trouble with this one. if i could eat fruit fine this diet would be a breeze it really would. i envy people who can eat it raw on an empty tummy an be ok xx

Hi Viva Diva!
I am hypoglycemic and also experience those symptoms after having just an all fruit smoothie on an empty stomach..No Fun!!

My favorite morning smoothie is bananas, with a HUGE spoonful(or 2) of almond butter and a little almond milk with a few ice cubes. (if you don't have almond milk, just add a little bit of water)

I find that adding the protein of the almond butter helps me, so maybe it would be worth it for you to try it as well. Hope it helps.

I'm guessing it's more the fat from the almond butter. It's grounding. Greens contain more protein; nuts contain more fat.

There is nothing that says you have to drink fruit smoothies for breakfast . You could make an almond milk based smoothie, that was agreat suggestion. You could also have some raw granola w/ almond milk and maybe a half abanana cut up into it...that is a delicious alternative. If the fruit works for you later in the day have it then. If the fruit smoothies don't work for you don't have them...try to find other breakfast choices instead. Feeling the way you do is horrible.

me tooo..I sometimes have a problem with all fruit/too much fruit.. You didn't mention whether this was a green smoothie or just a fruit one? I guess it doesn't matter either way, I was getting this reaction from green smoothies, my solution was adding raw hemp powder to them and I would make them huge!! enough to last me the morning. I usually use water (I like my almond milk fresh and don't have time first thing in the am to make it!), greens, bananas or frozen tropical fruit and at least 4tbs. hemp and coconut oil - its really a great ratio of carbs, fats & proteins and I have no problem.

I feel much better when I add hemp or spirulina (for the protein) in my smoothies. I cannot tolerate an all fruit only smoothie as well due to hypoglycemia. Good luck.

to make it even more confusing, i just had a look at the glycaemic index of all fruit and the low ones are the ones that trouble me more thna the high ones...how odd is that? doesnt seem to make sense. maybe its not a blood sugar thing. i assumed it was cos it happens any time i eat frexh fruit on an empty tummy however i must say that bananas are fine, dates fine, an apple fine...juicy sweet fruit are the ones that trouble me.

the nice ones. mango,. strawberries. plums. oranges. pineapple.peach. raspberries (yumyum) etc...

Hi Viva, I'm sorry you are having fruit issues. Here are links to alissa's store regarding some of the items you don't know about.

If you aren't located in the US, you can google these products and get them online or ask your local HFS to order them in for you. You can make almond milk from water and raw almonds and blend it. Maybe search using the banana and you'll probably find posts about it. Good luck.

I have this same problem when I haven't eaten in a while. I found that I either have to eat fruit later in the day or 30 minutes after a handful of nuts. This includes a green smoothie and I really don't use much fruit in mine. I can only assume it is because of the quick transfer of sugars in the intestine because it doesn't happen with with desserts or anything non blended or non-juicy.

If I eat fruit on an empty stomach I feel funky. Maybe not right away but later on I start getting the shakes, my head starts getting foggy, etc. I have blood sugar issues as well.

Green smoothies are fantastic, at least I don't get the same effect from them and all it takes is about three parts greens, one part fruit. You don't really taste the green and there's lots of combinations you can make. I'm addicted to baby spinach ones.

You may also be reacting to acid in the fruit. I find this happens with certain apples and acidic fruits, which tend to be the low glycemic ones.

If you have blood sugar problems it's suggested that you lay off the fruit and starches for a month while raw, then add them gradually. Add just a little bit to your foods as a mild sweetner but basically your pancreas needs a break from trying and failing at processing sugar. It's overworked.

Because you don't get high calories from sugar, adding high protein from dark greens and fats from nuts, seeds and oils is essential.

I'm going to try it myself.

I like to have a young coconut to start my day. I blend the juice and the meat together. I find that it starts my day right and I think it might be the fat in the coconut that does the trick.

So you drink this by itself and don't add anything to it? Just curious :)
