I've been eating all live food for almost two months now and hadn't had a period. I wasn't worried, just figured things were shifting around. Then two days ago it started and it was painful. (my periods were usually light and easy).
I thought, okay no problem must be detoxing etc... Then the huge mood swings kicked in: crying or feeling like crying for no apparent reason, low energy. Usually I'm up at 5 am full of energy, my dishes are always clean, there's always raw food that I've prepared in the fridge...now there's dishes in the sink and nothing ready to eat.
Which brings me to my next problem: food!
For the past two nights I've been plagued with thoughts of vegan cheese pizza(I didn't even eat vegan pizza when I was vegan!- before raw) It's crazy actually. I am really struggling to stay with the all live foods.

Am I complaining, venting? well partly, but the other part is I wondered if anyone else can relate?:o

I just posted about this. I feel like my hormones are messed up. My periods have been regular, but the last month or so I have had awful pms symptoms. Feel like crying, sore breasts, acne on my face (which I never get). Not sure what is going on. Anyway, I can relate!

I'm past this stage in life -- but I think - perhaps your body is adjusting and doing some healing AND detoxing... getting rid of some very deep things.... this will pass... just try to ride it out -- make sure you're getting enough water... and vitamin Bcomplex / B12...

I would also up the green smoothies - or at least get some of that green food - or green powder that Alissa sells to add to smoothies.... it will give a lot of nutrients in a very concentrated form.

Once your body is able to process thru this - I think you will then have a more comfortable - less bloating, and less pms, mood swings etc...

It will be worth the journey to push thru this phase.... you'll be fine!

uuh the whole period thing is frustrating to me- i missed last month and seems like this month i'm not getting one either  i'm not happy to say the least. And yet, i don't think i'm doing bad to my body so i hope this problem will take care of itself.

p.s. i'm not pregnant for sure... so i'm just really confused about this

SusiS: Yup, we got it...the raw 'detoxing out more stuff that will eventually make us feel better' blues. Hope you feel better soon:O)

StarFire: Thanks the green smoothie idea was helpful. As always I should know "If I have a problem, drink a green smoothie. If I still have it after the green smoothie, then I'm detoxing and I should have another green smoothie"...hee, hee:D
Actually, my feelings didn't seem so overwhelming once I typed out that thread yesterday. I got up ate some mango, did the dishes, finished some yard work, went to the store to get more produce and made a green smoothie.
Thanks everyone:O)

PS: last night I didn't have the "soy pizza" dream so I'm probably on the upside of things.

Riiiya: sorry things aren't feeling very good right now....um, have a green smoothie:cool:

My cycle is shot to hell at the moment and has been for ages. I'm hoping RAW will help.

The green smoothie is a great idea. I am 50 and still have mine, usually like clockwork....this month after being 100% for just over a month it was a week late..distressing to say the least as it makes me worry like crazy that I could be pregnant and that is NOT my plan!! I think it was due to stress and then I worry and then I am MORE stressed.
I am a major believer in herbal medicine...and ordered an herbal tincture from Avena Botanicals...a very cool company...to help regulate my cycle in times of stress. I wonder how long I am going to have a cycle. My sister is younger than I am and has only had one in the last two or three years.

Hope you are feeling back to "normal" soon rawnhealthy~

You're craving pizza, pizza is sugar and fat, both things are high in calories and your body may be needing those.

Try eating fatty raw foods. I know it's not totally raw and pure but a b12 supplement might also help.

Lilly the Naiad:
That's interesting because I usually don't eat alot of fat. Not intentionally, but I'm just not drawn to it that often.
However....my husband picked up these AMAZING avos last night at the HFS. They are huge and buttery on the inside. I sat down with a bowl of mashed up avos and some flax oil(pinch of salt) and WOW-MOMMA was that good!!!! My body seemed to be outright craving fat and in a big way. I've never eaten that much avo in my life! I started out eating it with crawkers but quickly ditched them to eat straight avo. YUM- YUM- YUM- YUM- YUM!
Did I say YUM!:p

Thanks for the input! I think you're right on:cool:

I'm very glad you're feeling better! I've read it from several places that when women go raw and loose their periods, that they aren't eating enough fat. I know there's people who shun fat but I'm a believer that cooked fat is poison, raw fat is a necessity.

Another thing about avos is that they contain alot of potassium, something that's also in chocolate and we all know how chocolate cravings get when the monthly comes!

Lilly the Naiad:
That's true, I've heard there are several things that are in chocolate that our bodies need when we are menstruating...didn't know about the potassium link though. The pieces are finally coming together:O)

I believe fats are important too, guess I'm still figuring our how much and when. I thought I was listening to my body...and I suppose I was, I did notice the flashing soy pizza sign! But I forgot to translate it into RAW:p

It's sad how messed up our bodies get with years of improper nutrition.

Clear cravings are a great way to find out what the body needs. Like I'm quite lazy when it comes to drinking water, but I'd often crave juicy fruits, then realize my body needs water. After drinking the cravings go away.

I bought the Garden Diet e-book (http://www.thegardendiet.com) from the Taliferos and it has a pretty decent cooked to raw craving chart. It helped me quite a bit in the beginning :)

Translating cooked into RAW is a fun experiment and you'd be surprised how effective it is! When I crave pizza I put together something with lots of nuts, avos, salty and sweet bits and it usually does the trick ;)

Wow, thanks for introducing me to the garden diet website. I hadn't read anything about that yet. I checked it out and it has alot of info. Their whole family looks so alive! I love seeing children with all their light shining through their big clear eyes- it is a wonderful gift they have given themselves and their children:O)

Sooner or later you'd end up finding out about them, they are a raw foodist treasure ;) You'll fall in love with that family as much as everyone I know has!

It's so interesting to me how different all our bodies are. My last period lasted for 2 WEEKS ~ I didn't think it would ever end. I don't know what's worse, none or 1/2 a months worth ;) Our bodies all heal differently as we are all different. Hope you are feeling better about it all. :D

Thanks Justine
I am feeling better. The Green Smoothies really helped and the fact that I ate half a gi-normous avocado yesterday:O)
I know it's like I'm having to get to know ME all over again. Since I went raw I keep changing, almost constantly. My body is changing, my thoughts are shifting...good thing my husband is an angel:p
