Ugh, this guy I work with keeps telling me I shouldn't be eating carrots because they are full of sugar and they aren't good for you. He said that more than one person told him that too, that if a person is looking to lose weight or eat before a workout never to eat carrots? geez louise!

I love carrots. I'm happy to eat them. Each to their own but I wonder what he does eat if he's worried about gaining much weight from eating carrots!

Well he is more on the heavy side, said he used to be super thin and ate 6 meals a day which some trainer told him how to eat then got lazy, he is always coming back from lunch from the diner nearby with these greasy onion sandwiches or dunkin donuts, ugh!

maybe next time he talks about the fattening aspects of carrots you might suggest the physician heals himself!!!

Grasshopper, never take nutrition advice from a donut eater.

Carrots aren't good for you? But Dunkin Donuts are? Something wrong with that logic I think. Carrots have a glycemic index level of 47, which is considered LOW. The carbs in carrots have a medium effect on blood sugar levels. They also contain a phytonutrient called falcarinol which is associated with a reduced risk of cancer.

It's so silly how many people out there have such misconceptions of real whole foods. I just want to argue and yell, but I hold my tongue. It's nuts! It's the same as that Atkins thing telling people not to eat fruit, makes me insane!

atkins tells people to reduce the type of fruit they eat on the induction phase
like bananas and peaches but they could eat loads and loads of veggies. This is only suppose to last a couple of weeks. I had 3 friends go on the atkins diet. I kept asking them, why are you eating hamburgers and sausage when the diet does include low carb fruits and pretty much all veggies.
people take what they want out of diets, and have "selective" hearing.

everyone loves to criticize and tell you negative things. sure a carrot may have more sugar than other veggies and is "hybridized" but is a carrot going to make someone fat, have hypoglycemia, or make them unhealthy.

i never take advice from someone who isn't doing better than me. would you take advice from someone in living in apartment about home mortgages?

LOL I love it! How many times do non raw people criticize our choices all the while they are hitting the vending machines, chugging soda, living on coffee and stopping by fast food places weekly ~ yet we are the unhealthy ones!!!

Carrots do have more sugar than some other veggies and so does corn. That is why they are sooo yummy haha.. anyway... its natural sugar and your body can use that more easily than SAD sugar so I wouldn't worry about it... a carrot isn't going to make you fat :D

Yes Tootsie you are funny! There is much controversy about carrots but there is still goodness to be had from them.

lol indeed, who the hell worries about getting fat from eating carrots?

I'm sensitive to sugar and have carrot, orange and sunflower seed salad every morning without any problems. It actually helps get things moving.

Here's a good source of information about carrots:
http://www.frontofhousemagazine.co.uk/carrots.asp

"As far as our general health is concerned, carrots play an important role in neutralising acid in the body. If you have a health problem, you are very likely to be acidic.

Too much acid will decrease the energy production in the cells and the ability to repair damaged cells. The body is unable to detox heavy metals and that allows tumour cells to thrive. It will also cause a depressed immune system leaving the body wide open to infections. Being mildly acidic can cause headaches, stomach problems and general fatigue but if the body continues to accumulate acid in tissues and blood stream far more serious health problems will develop such as degenerative diseases and cancer. Carrot is an alkaline forming food that works with the pH in your body to ensure that safe levels are maintained. "

i see where where his "valuable" comment comes from (yea yea carrots are hybrid, they're way sweeter than supposed to be naturally).... but heck!

first of all, why would you take advice from a person that doesn't get the results YOU want?

and second- that's just simply ridiculous. people looooooooove to criticise how fattning nuts are, and omg avocados are just the evil fatty fruit! oh and now vegetables are too sugary... geeeeeeeeez. Those people should look in the mirror when they sit down to eat.;)

Yes, carrots have a few sugars. They also have generous fiber which slows the absorption of the sugars into your bloodstream.

I eat carrots and I'm losing weight.

All of the nutrients in a carrot are organically arranged so that they are just right for the human body. The nutrients in a donut are inorganic and cause havoc in the body. Each person has to decide for them selves what they are going to feed the body with.
