Does anyone watch "You Are What You Eat"? I get it on BBC America at 4pm ET weekdays. They take overweight people and put them on an 8 week "detox" diet which I would describe as high raw, well maybe about 50% raw, with lots of produce, tofu and hummus, not sure if it is vegan or not. They seem to loose more than 3 stone on it, which would be 42 pounds, it was awesome to see this on TV.

Here is a link to it, it looks like is a new show that just started in Sept, and it is not vegan, but it is still inspiring.

It's by Dr Gillian McKeith, you may have heard of her, she sells health products. Her diet includes fish and fowl, but its not a diet based around meat. Its the classic healthy wholefood vegan diet with the addition of fish and fowl. She recommends eating as much raw food as possible (including sprouts, juice, seaweed, algae, grass) but its not a raw diet. Her salads are like a rawfoodists salad (every kind of raw veg, fruit, sprouts etc) rather than the typical lettuce tomato and cucumber. She recommends adding raw food to every cooked meal. It is gluten free and white potato free, and obviously no processed food.

A typical day on her diet is
breakfast - juice or fruit smoothie
lunch - piece of fruit, home-made vegetable soup with raw sprouts sprinkled on top, salad plus beans/fish, veg crudites with dip, handful of seeds
dinner - pulses/fish with gluten-free grain or sweet potato and lots of cooked veg, with sprouts and raw veg added after serving.

that would be an excellent transition diet for the general public. it is nice that the bbc is promoting real health not gimmicks.

I've actually seen this show.....it's really amazing to see the transformations....I mean, the people on the show just eat ATROCIOUSLY!! It's quite disgusting, actually. She typically lays out a weeks' worth of food that the person would normally eat........just seeing all that SAD crap would turn anyone around! She not only transforms their diet, but advocates an overall healthy lifestyle, including lots of exercise. It's really quite brilliant.....gets people thinking about what they're doing to their bodies, and even better that she promotes a partial raw diet.
