I'm having a hard time finding healthy raw foods at my supermarket. There is only one health food store nearby, which I plan on visiting shortly. In the mean time I'm looking at online stores. I came across this store on ebay, and was surprised at how cheap, compared to the other sites I have been on, their almonds are. http://stores.ebay.com/Welcome-to-Sweetwater-Market
My question... how do I know if I'm getting what I think I'm getting from stores online? Does this look like a good place to get raw foods??
My second question: Where do you usually buy the bulk of your food? (Grocery store, farmers market, online?) I plan on starting my own garden so that I may know whats been done to the food I eat, but this still won't cover me for most nuts. (We do have a black walnut and a butternut tree, but I'm not sure how editable they are.)
I must see clueless right now. That's because I am! I know what I want, but I have no clue how to get it.
Thank you for your help,

we have a black walnut tree -they arent fun to harvest ,the green husks will stain ,and the husk part is VERY toxic to horses (we have a horse )so its more of a nuisance

btw ,do you have a whole foods, central market ,wild oats or trader joes near you ? They have good bulk sections. If you KNOW that the nuts are RAW then it should be fine.....

Welcome Allegra!
What part of MI are you in? There's Trader Joe's, several locations of Wholefoods and in Ferndale there is the Natural Food Patch. There may be other smaller chain stores also. I've heard that Sam's Club also has some nuts in large bags but I'm sure they're not organic if that's what you're looking to buy.

I just went to the whole foods website, www.wholefoods.com and I found four in the Detroit area. My family is in Livonia, Garden City and Redford, so the closest for them is probably the Troy store.
check out the website....

Yes we have horses too, 6 of them. The black walnut is in their pasture, but they have never in the 9 years we've lived here shown any interest in them. (In fact they wont even eat the grass under the tree.) Smart fella's.
:) I know that some people have problems with the black walnuts burning their mouths, though appartently my grandpa loved them.

I just found out that a new health food store opened up in Holland, where I work, so now there are two!
Thank you for posting the links. I'll check them out momentarily. :)
