Hi friends,
I was raw many years ago but somehow lost my way but am finding the path again. :)

I just discovered making raw vegie/fruit smoothies! If only I'd known about that years ago! I need to get Alissa's book on making things other than smoothies.

I've been detoxing lately. Was itchy like mosquito bites but they are gone. Then I had a rip roaring headache for a whole night a couple nights ago (hardly got any sleep that night) and refused to take Advil knowing I'd have to detox that later. But now I feel GREAT!

I want to stay raw but am struggling. I'm going to a class later this week to learn more about preparing more raw dishes. I'm psyched about that!

I look 4ward 2 reading all your posts and most likely will be asking questions so bear with me.

Hi Andy!
Nice to see another Michigander too!

Not real sure why you used the word "slice" but I'm dense sometimes.

How long have you been raw? How do you like Alissa's book?

what a cutie patootie you are Mr.GreenJeans!! ALOHA and Welcome to RFT! ... You're gunna LOOOVE LOOOOVE LOOOOOOOOVE ALISSAs book - and get the DVD TOO if you can! It's like having alissa right there in your kitchen teaching you how to 'un~cook'!

Alissas book and DVD were the two things that really helped me transition to the raw lifestyle when I first went raw. I had no clue what I was doing - so - having all that info - so easy to read and understand -- and being able to watch the recipes being made ... was awesome - I needed to see the textures and what stuff looked like -- it really helped me alot... that and having this forum to run to anytime I had a question or needed some support.

You're gunna love RFT! so glad you have joined us!

Have fun at your cooking - I mean 'un~cooking' class... and don't forget --- if you learn any wonderful recipes... gotta share them!!

rawk on!! I look forward to reading more of your posts and getting to know you better!....

Hi Starfire, thanks for the welcome!
Thanks for all the tips too. I certainly will share new recipes. Lately I've been just not following any recipes but experimenting with different flavors in my smoothies by using different leaves and fresh condiments like Dill etc and different fruits. It's exciting. I used to gag on cilantro but this morning put in a handful and it was delicious! Yummy!

Yes, I hopefully will order the book today! Aloha 2 u 2!

"Hi Andy!

MrGreenJeans"

It was supposed to be "home-slice". I have two older children and that was a term they used to use when younger. I am sure it isn't in vogue anymore. Sorry for the confusion. I am from Kalamazoo by the way.

I have been transitioning into raw for a few months now. I would jump right into it, but my family tends to freak out when I try things like that. I did 10 days on the lemonade diet/master cleanse last year and they acted as if I was suicidal or something.

Anyways, I loved Alissa's book. You could try what I did and get your local library to purchase a copy. My wife lost her job just prior to when I was going to buy it so we did not have the money for it. The local library did not have a copy but regularly purchase recommended books if they think enough people would be interested in it. I told them that a bunch of people at work wanted to check it out as well, which they do, so they ordered a copy.

There are a lot of great people in this forum with a wealth of information. I spent probably 2-3 months just going over current and past posts before ever posting any of my own. I mean, if a person wanted to write a book on raw foods, there is enough information within this forum for probably 3 or 4 books on different aspects of raw foods.

Before I drag on and on here, again, welcome and I look forward to talking with you again.

SuzieS, nice to see yet an other Michigander on the boards.

Hi Andy,
Thanks for the nice post.
I got Alissa's book. It looks really interesting.

I've been 100% raw for about 11 days now. I was macrobiotic for many years before this. But under macro all things are cooked. And their philosophy is that since there are just so many fruits in the world and you need to divide that number by the number of people living on the planet, one should have very little fruit in their diet. But since there is so much rice and vegetables that should be eaten more.

But I am really enjoying this raw diet. I sleep so very well. A couple week ago I told my boss I think I had sleep apnia because I'd go to bed tired and wake up tired. Now I go to bed around 9:00 to 9:30 to 10:00 just because that's what I've always done and wake up fully refreshed. Sometimes I want to get out of bed around 3:00 A.M. and get going.

I must be detoxing some more because this morning I awoke around 4:00 but just didn't want to get out of bed. I got out around 7:30 which is very late for me. I don't know how much longer I'll be detoxing. If any of you raw pro's know, I'd love to know.

Maybe we Michiganders can all get together sometime for a potluck dinner where we all bring our own raw dish?

Tony
