I've read alot about how wheatgrass shot is really healthy so today I happened next to a juice bar and ordered a shot of wheatgrass(my very 1st) and an apple and granola bar . Simple right ...thats what I thought . about 40mins later I hurled >_<. I even ended having a spilliting headache and stomache ache that lasted another 30mins after I got 'that' out of my system. Has this happened to anyone before , can anyone explain to me what the heck went wrong?

there is a thread on here about this somewhere, i will look for it.
that happened to me the first time too...i mixed it in with orange and carrot juice yesterday and was fine.
i think it's something about the acid in the stomach or something. i can't remember. my friend once told me it's because i was toxic at the time i chugged it.

many thanks . hmm I was wondering whether it was possibly linked to my body expelling toxins but whoah that was an awful experience . How do people survive going on detox for weeks and weels >_<.

see i want to try wheatgrass but this is why im scared to try it at a juice bar... but i dont want to go to the effort of growing it AND the expense of buying a wheatgrass juicer if ive never even tried it, lol.

wheatgrass is a powerful detoxer. This could be what happened

It is also packed with nutrition. It is amazingly powerful stuff. I can only have it on an empty stomach and they recommend swishing it in your mouth for about 30 seconds before swallowing to mix in some digestive juices before it hits your stomach. We grow our own and we just add it straight to our green smoothies rather than juicing it. That helps too. Good luck! :D

ive done all the suggested things...and it still gives me a massive headache...and then a killer tummy ache. i stay away from it. and if i have it with citris its even worse...my tummy is in knots for a day.

The wheat grass (wg) is much sweeter tasting and easier to take if it is young, short, first growth wg. Some juice bars, and homes too, but mostly juice bars try to get the most out of their wg. They will grow it to long in order to get the most juice out of it and if it dosn't sell they just keep growing it until it does sell. The wg is sweetest when it is short, just 3 to 7 inches. If the wg is to strong tasting for you harvest it younger (shorter). The ws should only be used once. After the first clipping many juice bars will continue growing the wg in order to get more juice out of it but then it does not taste sweet anymore and its past its best as far as nutrients are concerned. Some juice bars will continue to grow it as long as it looks OK, that might be 3 or 4 clippings or more. If you grow the wg at home then you have control of the process including harvest time. If you get it at the juice bar I suggest you look at the wg, Here's some things you might want to check out:
1) How long is the wg ?
2) Look at the very top of the wg blade, has it been cut before ?
3) If you can pluck one of the blades of wg off and chew it. Does it taste sweet ?
If the ws is behind the bar and you can't get to it can you ask for a sample of one of the blades and then check it out.

I don't have time to search for the thread right now but it has been discussed here last year. Most people were taking the detox theory but one very knowledgable person wrote in about the moldline on the wheatgrass and proper harvesting of it. Probably both theories are valid.

I get really sick from wheatgrass shots so I now do wheatgrass powder and mix it in with my green smoothie.

Wheatgrass is often MOLDY.
Check the grass carefully first at the base.
I have rarely seen it at an establishment serving juice where there aren't issues with mold.

I have tried growing wheat grass a number of times and have never been able to do it successfully...always have a mold issue. I've been trying to educate myself about it and have read in many places that both home grown and greenhouse grown grasses have many mold problems, both those you can see on the base of the stems or at the root base and microscopic molds too tiny to be seen and it is THOSE that give the suppossed detox symptoms of headache, stomach pain and nausea and NOT the juice itself.
I know I still have lots to learn about it but for now I am taking flash frozen juice shots I buy at the HFS and I feel good, they do not taste bitter at all and I haven't had any ill reactions to them.

I used to grow wheatgrass and took up to 6 oz a day, so some tips,
-grass has to be young, the first cutting, and free of mold
-dilute with water and add apple juice (this is the only thing that allowed me to consume 3oz at a time)
-eat a banana or something if you havent eaten that day
-u must work your way up to larger amounts, wg juice is very potent in its nurtitional value, your stomach can react violently to that concentration of nutrients.
-grow your own- controlling your own grass allows you to grow mold free, and it is incredibly cheaper. you can make it for as little as 15 cents an oz. find out where your local juice bar sources their flats of wg from and contact the farmer. they will usually sell you seed, or might even sell the flats to you. huge discount
The more consistently you drink wg, the more incredible your results. up your intake every week by an oz or even half an oz a day. dont try to exceed 4oz at a time. u will get sick.
when you take 3oz at a time, you will get one of the best highs ever. the incredible life energy will make your body literally buzz. the best reason for ever drinking wg is to feel that buzz, it is amazing

when you grow your own, air circulation is critical. do not use too many seeds per flat. i used to do 3/4 c seeds, but experiment

since I've posted this I've been doing alot of reading on wheatgrass juice and I think the problem def was mold. The wheatgrass shot she gave me was from indoor grown wheatgrass on a little tray . No detox could possible happen that quickly and that violently, my body obviously reacted very badly to it because it was just plain bad. You must never forget the importance of listening to your body and mine was telling me to never drink that ever again ,, very loud and clearly . I just hope I wouldn't have any longterm effects from drinking that bad juice (yuck).

I can sure see how you would get sick from drinking a shot of moldy WG juice. IMO the best way to do the WG is to grow it yourself. Anything else and you don't have complete control over the process and the quality. The ONLY way I would consume WG that I didn't grow myself would be if I could inspect the WG carefully before purchasing. Sorry the WG juice left a bad taste.

Oh the same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was just me being weird, especially as I've had wheatgrass before.
Come to think of it, it was an indoor juicebar in a shopping mall that I got it from. I walked past it a few days ago and noticed the wheatgrass looked long and pale. That explains it. It was mouldy and I'm really sensative to moulds. I didn't know that wheatgrass had a mould problem before.

I walked past it a few days ago and noticed the wheatgrass looked long and pale. After the WG has sprouted it should start growing a bright deep green blade. Its a living plant so it needs sunlight for photosynthesis.

I had my first Wheat grass shot a month or so ago from a juice bar I'm so glad I didn't get sick, I didn't know that you have to be concerned about mold. I think it's probably best to just grow it yourself.
At first I was thinking that I'd just get my wheat grass from a juice bar but now I don't think so. Another reason I thought I'd get if from a juice bar is because I don't have a juicer that will juice wheat grass but I saw someone above saying you can put it in the blender so maybe I'll try that.

Hi Doc, I buy mine in ice cube form at whole foods and add it to my blender along with the ice when making smoothies. So far in 3 months...no problems. (I don't have a wg juicer either).

I wish I had whole foods here, we don't have anything here.. LOL, but maybe I can go to Chicago and load up on the ice cube ones.

There are many explanations for getting sick. You have to keep trying it for yourself. I wouldn't stop drinking it. Emotions have alot to do with it too. Also what food has been in your stomach? I can't eat after drinking or put it in anything but water. Sometimes I get a little light headed and a stomach ache and sometimes I don't. A lot of grass gets mold. I just lay down and receive cause I still know it's a good thing to do.

Hi,
I just got turned into drinking wheat grass juice. What I have been doing so far is get fresh wheat grass and chew it until yhe grass is dry. I need to change this method as soon as I can, however, I need help finding which will be a good juicer to get.
Does anyone here has any suggestions?
Thanks!
