my finger joint on one hand has been feeling sore for the past week-ish. anyways, just the other day i went to massage it and discovered a little bump! right at the joint where my finger connects to my hand, on the inside of my middle finger.
i went to the clinic and the doc said that it was called a ganglion cyst, and is formed when a ligament ruptures due to repetitive motion and fills with fluid. im fairly sure i got mine due to playing my djembe.
she said that sometimes they just go away on their own, and mine IS quite small at this point. BUT, sometimes they get bigger, and then plastic surgery is needed to remove them as they can become quite painful
she said to just rest it and to take some anti-inflammatories.
she had one herself, quite a bit bigger, on her wrist, and HER WORDS WERE
"it can hurt a lot but im alright as long as i remember to EAT MY MOTRIN."
uhm!!?!? this woman looked extremely unhealthy and DRUGGED, even, im not exaggerating. she was disturbing. i was appalled that she was a doctor.
anyways i was wondering if anyone has any experience with ganglion cysts,
any words of wisdom to offer,
or if you know of any natural inflammatories,
because i am not about to start "eating" motrin!
and even if you dont have any advice, some healing energy would be nice, because i want to be back drumming!!!
cheers
:)

10 hydrangea capsules per day for 10 days will completely dissolve it.

I have personally seen it work. I believe it is the root that is used, but hydrangea is what is listed on the bottle. I can look it up if it's really important. Hydrangea is purely plant. You will need to pay attention to what the capsules are made of if you are a purist in that area. The way that it works is that it dissolves calcifications. Hydrangea and gravel root are both used to dissolve kidney stones.
Let me know how it works.
I'm getting dinner going now, but I'll try to look up some info for you to read on it.

Here's some information that describe the solvent properties of hydrangea-- and it is the root.
Hydrangea
Hydrangea is best known for its solvent properties that help support the urinary system. Hydrangea contains flavonoids, including quercetin and rutin, which help relieve inflammation and pain. Hydrangea has been used for hundreds of years in folk medicine to contribute to the elimination of deposits in the bladder and kidneys.
The solvent properties found in hydrangea help break-down and prevent further formation of stones and deposits in the urinary and glandular systems. In addition, bitter compounds found in Hydrangea make it a great blood purifier and cleanser for the urinary tract.
Hydrangea promotes the overall health of the prostate gland, helping reduce inflammation and swelling. Hydrangea also contains nutrients and minerals, including a fairly large amount of calcium, which is beneficial in strengthening the bones and connective tissues.

Hey doc?
Would this hydrangea help me from having to get up and pee every hour all night long?
Or do you know of anything else that would help me?
I have suffered this since the birth of my almost 14 year old. No allopath has been able to help me.

Huh, I didn't know that about Hydrangea! I'll have to try it.
I have one on my wrist. I got it from washing cups a certain way when I was younger. We didn't have a dishwasher and I would do this motion with my wrist over and over. One day it hurt and I noticed the bump. That was when my daughter was an infant and she's turning 7 in a few weeks, and it's still there. Doesn't hurt ever anymore and I think it has shrunk a bit, you can only see it on the underside of my wrist when I bend it...it doesn't bother me, so I just forget about it usually. *shrug*

You can also hit it with a book and it will drain the cyst. To me, hydrangea would be much less painful;)
it would not help with urinary urgency. Email me some more information and I'll see what I can come up with. I will just point you in the right direction and you can do some research and make decisions on your own.

well, thank you so much for all this information! im going to see my acupuncturist this morning and ill mention it to him and see what he says!
yes, id rather not hit it with a book. its right in the joint of my finger and i imagine that would be a tricky and painful process. lol. but thanks for the plan b ;)

I've had two at various times. The first one, on a cooked diet, lasted years. The second one on a raw diet went much sooner. They both disappeared by themselves so I can't give any advice sorry, but they do go eventually.

Yes, I have a few and they only hurt when I get a Rheumatoid flare up. Go to www.griponarthritis.libraryonhealth.com/read and there is a list of natural anti-inflammatories.

Where can I find information about Hydrangea. I would love to see if it would help my Rheumatoid and osteo Arthritis. Is there a link somewhere?:)

mine is still there
i think if i totally rested it it might go away,
but i keep drumming and i think that keeps it here.
its not as big as it once was but sometimes after drumming its bigger again.
i never tried the hydrangea,
because i realized it said it was for calcifications,
and i was told that ganglions were ligaments that had filled with fluid.
so its a different case completely, isnt it?

I had 2 ganglion cysts on my wrists, one big one and one small one right next to each other. What i was told back then was there wasn't any rhyme or reason to why they occurred, and having them removed wasn't a guarantee they wouldn't come back. I had a teacher in middle school who had one on her back.
We decided to have mine removed because the doctor said it probably wouldn't hurt me, but one day i'd be playing volleyball or something and it would hit my cyst, and then it would bother me. There were 2 options when i had mine removed -- taking a big needle and sucking the fluid out (in which case they had more tendency to return), or having them surgically removed. Dad went with surgically removed and i haven't had any more.

Hydrangea works for ganglians over and over. I feel like a broken record here. I've seen it work . If you choose to use it , please report back whether you found it helpful.

Yes, you are correct.
And I have used hydrangea to dissolve a kidney stone and it worked GREAT!
I used it along with Uva Ursi and perhaps another herb, I'll have to look it up. But the hydrangea root worked fine.
By the way, are you REALLY a doctor?
I'm curious.
Thanks!

I guess it depends on who is making that decision. I work out of Florida. Florida has not recognized Naturopaths since the 60's.
I was a Nurse Practitioner with a specialty in Cardiology before I left the field and began to study natural medicine due to my son's ADHD. I am Federally Board Certified with a Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine, but Florida does not recognize it.... Regardless, I am available for Natural Health Education and that is not illegal YET.

Does anyone know the brand to use? or have used it? I am interested purchasing some. How does it work? Just pop the pills and the cyst will disappear? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi! I found this thread thru google, and have found many other sites that mention the use of hydrangea for kidney stones and cysts.
I will be starting the pills tonight, HOWEVER, the bottle states to NOT take more than 4 pills per day (they are 415mg each). The recommended dosage from Dr.White in a previous reply called for 10 pills per day. Is the 10 pill/day recommendation for pills of a lesser strength than 415mg?
Thanks! I'll be posting my progress.
I need this nasty thing to go away so that I can get back into my nomal exercise routine, stat.

I just took my first dose of hydrangea fluid extract. Each dose is 2mL & I'll be drinking that 3 times/day. Each dose contains 2,000mg, so that'll be 6,000mg/day.
My local vitamin shoppe was out of the pill form, so I opted for fluid. It tastes like rubbing alcohol. I think I'm slightly buzzed right now.

I actually had one the size of a quarter on my hand near my wrist. I went to the doctor and he said that he could do what they called "bible therapy" where they take a book and smash it. I'm pretty sure that he didn't really want to do that to me but it's true that they used to do that. anyway, he said that it was no big deal and just keep an eye on it. Well the size never increased and it didn't hurt so it was fine with me. One day I was feeling a little sore so I took some glucosamine / chondroitin and low and behold, the swelling went all the way down. Now there is nothing there at all. It did come back just once and I used the same thing and it went back down again. It's been gone for at least 2 years now.

I am bumping this up because the ganglion cyst is now very painful that it hurts all the time. Our HFS doesn't carry them and Iwas wondering where to get them. And what dosage to take. I know Dr. White said 10 capsules/day for 10 days. Anyone tried this? Do you take 10 all at once and what is the strength of the capsules? Do they come in different strengths? PLEASE HELP I AM IN SERIOUS PAIN!!!!

Mine has become unbearable also (big lump on top of wrist), had for about 13years (drained first one in 2003 which has come back bigger with one growing next to it and one growing towards my thumb). Was scheduled for surgery next Wednesday (wish I'd search here before I spent so much money!!)
Plus I was diagnosed with RSI two days ago and I'm looking for a natural way to heal this. I've downloaded some software to help with pacing my work load and I've had an ergonomic keyboard since 2005, which isn't helping much since my workload has increased.
I'm due for surgery next week and I don't want to go this route again, I'll research the suggestion by Dr. White and let everyone know how it goes.
Incidentally, does anyone know if the hydrangea works for inner wrist pain? or should I be looking for something else.

I tried the hydrangea pills and they didn't do diddly. I used the recommended dosage from the bottle, not 10 pills a day. The pain and swelling has diminished somewhat, but I think that is moreso from trying to not be on the computer as much. I want to try the glucosamine/chondroitin now and see if that does anything to it.

omgosh...I had that same experience. Except the Dr. called his Medical Book Therapy and offered to whack it for me. Nice. I still have one on the top of each hand. Sometime they get big and then small again. Not sure why...
