No, honey is not vegan. Here is a good, LONG thread on the stance on honey here at RFT:http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=29555&highlight=vegan+site

I was also not aware of it until I came to this site. I thought bees were bugs.........................................
This was my thinking.
Please do not bash me, i'm reading the thread that was related to this...as you read. :p

nah it won't.
I'm still reading that long friggin' thread. dang!
It's all very intriguing. So I guess I can say I won't be 100% b/c I just really like honey. :p No matter what is said to me or what I read, I just really like it. I don't use much anyway but that doesn't matter when it comes to being raw vegan. soooooo I'm not raw vegan? hmmmmm well, at least I'll be super healthy! :D

But I will still put down fire ant killer b/c I don't want ants in my house, and I still have a fly swater, and raid for the occasional water bugs we get here in north texas. soooooooooooooooo I guess I'm not raw vegan. :)

If the honey is raw honey, then you're still considered a raw fooder. See, there are raw vegans, raw vegetarians and raw fooders/foodists...many labels (which I personally don't care to wear a label) so there are some raw fooders who don't consume ANY animal products and there are those who do be it honey, raw meat, raw dairy or raw eggs. RFT is majority raw vegan, but raw vegetarian would probably be a better-suited term since there are quite a few who don't have a problem with incorporating raw honey into their diet and it's not objected here on the forum.

This makes a whole lotta sense to me. Thank you. My eyes hurt from trying to read that post. Raw vegitarian sounds good for me. OR OR OR, "that girl who eats really healthy". that works too!!!! :)

If you read the link to that one thread I provided in my post you'll see the "arguments" that usually surround "the honey issue": as I like to call it. Now, when you say "normal" honey (assuming you mean the stuff you can buy at any grocery store, etc.)...nothings "wrong" with it except that it's not raw...it's heat processed, heat pasteurized, etc...rendering it a non-raw item. So, for the person who is trying to be 100% pure unadulterated raw, then they would not want "normal/regular" honey but rather raw honey.

I find the honey debate a fascinating topic. I wish I'd been about when that thread was live. I think honey is ok as long as the bees are happy bees. I consider there is a two-way benefit in honey production as long as the bees are well treated. I don't eat much honey myself. I'm not very fond of the flavour!

Wow, that was long! I didn't intend to read the whole thing.....but 30 minutes later I finished it. Good thought provoking stuff.

Sorry folks (mainly the OP) but I'm gonna close this up because I can just "feel" this thread turning into "that" thread...no, not NOW with the current posts...but if left up long enough, it's bound to head in that direction and we're not going down that road yet again. ANY and ALL questions that you may have pertaining to honey (along with ALL arguments, points and opinions for and against it) can be found in that thread (see my post above for the link) so please, just read that one. Thanks! :)

P.S. Starfire...you're just too cute! ;)
