In wheatgrassing for the past week, I realized that I love sprouted wheat berries! I could eat them by the handful - they're kind of sweet, and taste a little like oatmeal.

I experimented one day with freshly rinsed & sprouted wheat berries and mixed them with a bit of honey, cinnamon, and raisins. Yum! I ate a whole bowl full, about 2 cups worth, for breakfast. Great way to get in some sprouts!

How do you sprout your wheat berries? Do you actually have them in soil (I know to make wheatgrass you grow in soil) or do you just soak them in water and then drain and put in a bag or jar and wait for sprouts? I've got some in my cabinet and would love to try...

Yes, exactly do the same with wheat berries as you would with normal sprouts. That's how I make my wheatgrass too though, first I sprout it (soak for like 10 hours then rinse 2x a day for like 2-3 days) until it has about 1/8 in. tails and then sprinkle it over the dirt & it starts growing wheatgrass.

When I eat it sprouted, I just eat it after it has the same 1/8 in. tail instead of sprinkling over dirt.

Ohhhhhh! I love, love, love sprouted wheat berries too! I love your idea of making them into a type of cereal. Normally I just eat them by the handful when I'm not letting them become grass. Sounds so good, I'm off to sprout! :D

Is that the red wheat berry? I've never gotten mine to sprout BUT I WANT TOO. I wonder if I'm starting with the right thing?
