You know how healthy cravings cycle? One week you're just in love with tomatoes..... but next week bananas turn you on.

Well, I've consistently had a thing for mangoes. I'm wondering if anyone knows what nutrients they possess that might account for that.

And can anyone refer me to another website where I could check up the nutrients of various fruits and vegetables?

Thanks a mango bunch!

This is a link for the nutrients in mangos. I looked it up secifically because I too have been in mango madness since being raw. In the beginning I coudn't get enough, now it's just a preference not a "gotta have it" kinda feeling.

Isn't it heartbreaking to buy one, take it home, but it never ripens up nicely......

Stina - or you buy it in the store and it feels perfect, with just the right amount of give, and you cut into it and it's all stringy...

Info on ripening a mango:

We have found that the best way to ripen a mango is at room temperature, on the kitchen counter and if you wish to accelerate the process place in a paper bag overnight (some folks place an apple with the mango in the bag to create more natural ethylene gas and further decrease the ripening time).

Yeah, but then you gotta floss so it's good for your oral health:p :p

I am a mango freak too! Guess I better look up what nutrients are in the mango specifically to see what's going on.

Apparently from that link 4forme added mangoes have alot of Tryptophan and Phenylalanine in it. That Phenylalanine isn't the same as the kind in diet soda right? Maybe its from the tryptophan, makes a person relaxed? who knows? But I love them!

Ive been really into mango lately too, makes sense now I see the tryptophan connection cos I'm coming of seretonin meds. Thanks for starting this thread, its helped me really trust the process of giving my body what it wants.

must have mangoes. OMG. I miss the ones I get back home in Australia. We had a mango tree in my backyard. Whenever I was naughty, I'd sprint out of the house and climb up the tree to a hiding spot, where my Dad and Mum couldn't reach me, and hang out for hours. I love ripe mango, green mango sliced thin and pickled with lemon and salt..... *DROOOOL*!!! So need some right now.

Yeah, isn't that a fascinating process!

A play a mind-game on myself involving mangoes. If I start to get a SAD craving, like of me slobbering over a hamburger, I delete that by inserting visual imagery of me eating a mango. It works for me! Whatever it takes, huh? I can tell the difference between my body asking for a healthy food and my monkey mind sabotaging with food.
