Hi Everyone,
I just started the 30 day challenge today. I am not trying to be 100 % raw yet. Just as close as I can be. I am going away for a few days vacation and we will be eating out for a couple days. The motel we are staying at has free breakfast buffet and my husband wants to go to a Japanese restaurant for sushi. (I don't like sushi!). There is also a Italian restaurant at our motel so we will probably eat there.
I know I can always eat salads and I plan on bring a bunch of fruit, nuts and veggies with me.
Any other ideas?

well when you get salad try go for more medeterranian style ones-ask for a list of ingredients and if they are un cooked ,and ask for olive oil and lemons(you might use vinegar -its probably not going to be raw ,its up to how "100%" you want to be... on the side (sometimes oilve oil is already on the table -but you probably knew that) and if you were to go to a japanese resturant see if they have a seaweed salad that is raw? -of course since you dont like sushi -you might not like seaweed...

most importantly HAVE A GREAT TIME!!!!!!!

The best way to handle it is to read the entire menu, and then make decisions, if they have a banana split, you can get a fresh banana, if they have a breakfast buffet, they will probably have some fresh fruit available, and maybe some tea, that you could use with warmish water. and probably some fresh lemons.

You can ask for a salad, and ask for everything on the side, that way you can just eat what you like.

If they have a steak with mushrooms, you can get the mushrooms raw, if they have fish with lime sauce, they probably have fresh limes.

Also, tell the wait staff that you eat only fresh and raw food, nothing canned or frozen and then ask them to ask the cook to make you up a fresh fruit and veggie plate, I've had the most wonderful meals from restaurants this way.

Have a wonderful time.

Cool! Thanks for the ideas. I'm going to give all of them a try. I will also be bringing my blender, lots of bananas and other fruit, nuts and some wonderful flaxseed cookies I just made.
Maybe I will even try the veggie sushi at the japanese place.
I report in when i get back.
Best wishes,
Sue

Going out is tough... I'm going to make my first attempt while 100% raw tonight. Fortunately, this is a restaurant I go to fairly often and I know lots of people who work there (including my brother the cook ;) ). They have a great salad that usually comes w/ chicken or shrimp, but since I noticed they also have a portabello mushroom sandwich, I'll ask for the mushroom instead of the meat on my salad. :) I think I'll bring along some dates for when the rest of them are having dessert.
Have fun on vacation! :)

I like to bring avocados, lemons, and walnuts with me to add to the salad at restaurants. the lemons for dressing.
I look funny cutting open the avocado at the table - but I don't care!
Apples are always good to get through a tough time on the road.
and raisins and walnuts together are a nice treat too for snacky foods.

I tried something I read out of "12 Steps to Raw Food" and made little cards that said "I Eat Raw Food Only" and then listed veggies/fruits that I like and thanked the chef for his flexibility and creativity! I've used the cards once and the chef made a BEAUTIFUL presentation of raw food! It was great!

great idea reanna, sometimes we underappreciatte their creativity and they sometimes get bored with the same old order .........that would be fun for them ,as well as tasty for us! :)
