I am going into week three of being raw. I had an acne break out. I have never had issues with acne before, but now i look like a pizza-face! Can anyone make suggestions that may help? I have been a strict vegan for 10 1/2 months, and I am getting plenty of veggies, fruits, seeds, roots, nuts, fats, and water. I plan my meals days in advance to assure proper nutrient distribution. I was using a "green-drink" to supply some more nutrients, but I stopped using it due to the acne. HELP, please!

Congrats, you're probably going through detox. Toxins that were stored in your skin are exiting and your skin will probably be smoother than ever once it's over. Whenever I go raw, my skin gets rough and I might get a few pimples.

To fix it, I do some kind of a scrub with almond or coconut pulp, or even just stand in the shower and scrub it ith my fingernails. My acne detox lasts a few days. Hope this gets over soon for you!

Another thing to be aware of is that any change in your diet bring up new sensitivities that you might not have noticed before. Eating alot more nuts now? Maybe you are mildly allergic. Eating more produce but non-organic? You could be getting traces of pesticides and other harmful chemicals, especially if you don't wash your fruits and veggies thoroughly. I ate a whole bunch of non organic strawberries the other day, and even after washing them I noticed my mouth, lips, and tounge went a little numb and I had some mild skin breakouts shortly after. After awhile of eating completely raw and organic your body becomes hyper-sensitive to anything that isn't natural, raw, and organic.

Years ago people did carrot juice for their acne. Currently it is out of favor and I cannot remember why but just know that it might clean out your intestine quickly as well. I still do the carrot juice once in a while and there is a recipe for carrot soup here that is fabulous

2 cups carrot juice
1 avocado
1 inch ginger
1 clove garlic
1 teasp curry

(Hope I didn't forget anything! Garden Granny posted this one.)

So was it detox and did it clear up? I'd be interested in knowing because this type of question is asked by a lot of newbies. Thanks! :)

Teraw, I hadn't had acne for years, then earlier this year I started to break out. I've now discovered that if I use flax seed oil as a moisturiser at night, my skin is perfect. If I stop using it, I may start to break out again. And then if I use it again, imperfections are nearly gone by the morning.

Let me know your results if you try experimenting with this...

drink more fibrous blended soups and green smoothies. poop is the number 1 detoxification system of our bodies. it is unhealthy to detox too much through the skin. the more fibrous poop you have, the more you are detoxing through your bowels instead of your sweat. still, acne is inevitable. a few weeks into raw i even had weird rashes all over my body. also i would sporadically feel the effects (mostly the coming down parts) of drugs i had done in the past. yup, detoxx is good man. lets you know raw food is for real and that it really is working

Alissa recommends cucumber juice and it is AMAZING. Man, I love the stuff and when I drink it consistently my skin, hair and nails are perfect, no blemish in site. Good luck :D

is it just cucumber blended?
i have dark blemishes from my breakout before raw and i was trying to see if raw could diminish them.

Actually it is cucumber juiced in a juicer. Takes a little getting used to but before you know it you start craving it.

Cucumbers, Carrots definately. I've even blended up a whole cucumber with a bit of water in the blender and drank, fiber and all. Good stuff!

This link says that the silica is in the skin of the cucumber.

I am still breaking out. I am being extremely cautious to thoroughly wash my food. I eat 85%-95% organic anyway, so I've just kept an eye on that. I am going to try the flax seed oil like Queen Bean mentioned. It's strange though, b/c I only have break outs on my right lower cheek. Thanks!

Do you sleep on your right side? It's possible that you're detoxing sweat out during your sleep and if you sleep with your cheek on your hand, that could be the cause...

Acne is such a nuisance... Hope you find your answer soon. I'm going to try that flax seed oil, too, Queen Bean. Great idea! I've been trying to "nurture" my skin instead of attacking it. What do you use to cleanse?

I use a cleanser from a company called Trilogy...

Their website is http://www.trilogyproducts.com/

I will be very interested to see if the flax seed oil works for others too... It is amazing.

So, how is the flax oil working for you folks?

Do you use it from the refridgerator? Cold? Or do you keep it room temperature?

I've read that evening primrose oil is good for acne scars, but I haven't tried it.

Sounds like it could be from talking on the phone too. Make sure you don't let the phone touch your face when talking on it.
