I was at Trader Joe's last night and they are now selling LaraBars! I am so excited. And they are at least $.30 cheaper than any other market that sells them around here.

Hooray! Check it out if you have a Trader Joe's near by. It makes me so proud to be aware of raw food.

I had a cherry pie Larabar this morning - yummy. I tend to want to eat 2 in a sitting though. Mmmm, they are so good. I need to start making my own though for when I'm just around the house with a lot of time on my hands and keep the bars for when I'm on the go and pressed for time.

I tried to Cocao Mole yesterday, that one is really good! The spiciness is nice in that it isn't overpowering the chocolate and just makes your mouth tingle.

I hope that all Trader Joe's have them. I am in the San Francico Bay Area. I will have to check this out!

I just got my crunch bars that i ordered through Alissa and they are soooo good! I like the fact that they are really 'clean' and they taste like something i would make myself.

How much did they cost at Trader Joe's? Just curious, I am getting them at my local health food store for $1.69 each and the nearest Trader Joe's is a ferry ride away so the expense of the trip and time to go there I have to figure in! Thank you!!

And... I love the Lara Bars, so yummy. Also the raw crunch bars that Alissa sells, will have to get another order placed for those too. So nice to have bars like these for when we don't have time to make them ourselves and not be out and about without emergency rations!

They were $1.49. And, yes, I believe they are all raw...so the wrapper says. I just had one as a snack. Other local stores around here sell them for $1.99.

By the way...how could I make a similar bar at home? My husband tried his first Larabar last night (I told him it wasn't a candy bar and he must appreciate every bite in order for me to allow him to eat it!). Anyway, he loved it and said I should try making them.

Should I just blend nuts, dried fruit, shape and then dehydrate? Do I need to dehydrate them?

I made some that turned out pretty well. I just tossed about 2 handfuls of sundried bing cherries in with about 7 dates (too date heavy. Going to use less next time) and about 1/2 cup soaked almonds. Popped it in the food processor, mushed it into a block and chopped them into rough Larabar size. Tossed it all on the dehydrator. They don't taste exactly the same, of course, but they sure were yummy!

I love Lara bars, but yes, it does get expensive. This is what I do instead:

Chop in the food processor:
1 cup nuts (I use almonds and cashews, soaked, then dehydrated)

Set aside.
Combine in the food processor:
1 1/2 cups dried fruit (equal parts raisins, dates, and cherries/figs work well)
any flavorings you like (orange/lemon zest, spices, vanilla)

Blend together until moist and combined, adding a bit of liquid--just a bit--if the mixture fails to come together after a minute or two.
Add the nuts back in. If you like, add:
1/2 cup dried coconut

Shape into a long log or bar form. Mounding the mixture on plastic wrap, then covering and molding is easiest. Refrigerate until firm, then cut into smaller bars.

I don't dehydrate these. Lara bars aren't dehydrated, either.
And have you tried Fabe's Raw Life bar? These can be found in the freezer section (which depletes nutrients, I know) of some natural groceries. Fabe's uses raw cacao in their chocolate raw bar, which I like. (Chocolate Lara bars use unsweetened--roasted--cocoa.)

Enjoy!

yes ,its a bar -but its all raw (unless you get the cocoa or cashew cookie variety) and it has no more than 5 ingredients -the cherry pie and ginger snap are the best!!!! heres the link for more info http://larabar.com/home.html

they sell them at whole foods ,now trader joes (i guess) ,central market, and other larger (usually) health food stores.

What's in those? It seems like the bars I've tried so far are all nothing but nuts and dried fruit, which makes my candida come back. I'd love to find something quick and easy to take with me for when I can't get to food.

Hmm, I've never had a larabar, but I have been looking for a good recipe for a bar. Joy's recipe sounds great! Especially, since I wasn't comfortable dehydrating dried fruit again. Yummy, can't wait to try it! :p
