Hi all,
A lot of the bread-ish recipes in Alissa's book call for sprouting wheat berries. Has anyone substituted other grains successfully?? I had issues with wheat (pre-raw) and I didn't want to use that if there was something I could substitute for it. Some people seem to use oats or buckwheat. Where do you get the sproutable grains? My HFS doesn't carry them. Anybody have a good online source??

Thanks
Sarah

I have used flour made from raw oats, sprouted rye, and dehydrated almond pulp.

I have read on here (and maybe other places too) that people who are allergic to wheat tend to not be allergic to sprouted wheat berries. Don't know how bad your allergies are but if they're not too bad then you may want to experiment and see how you do with the sprouted wheat berries.

I prefer sprouted kamut to wheat berries for my breads and crackers. It tastes kind of like a very mild corn, without the starchy flavor. Many people who are allergic to wheat can digest kamut. I found mine at whole foods.

Thanks everyone! I'll looked for some kamut and oats to try. :) I'm looking forward to some flat bread. :D
