I am on my second consecutive day at 100% raw except for the dried cherries I don't know if they are raw or not...anyway I really want popcorn...is there any way to have it raw or something? I thought I saw something around here about that. Popcorn isn't raw right? Because it's popped? Anyway grainy chewy recipes wanted!

no popcorn isnt raw (Its sad in more ways than one :( ) anyways I LOVE dulse ,teared up nori, and zuc. chips ALSO sweet potato chips mmmmm, just slice them thin (ifyou have a mandolin or thin uniform slicer use that on a ultra thin setting) or use your socalido, then dehydrate for for 6+ hours on 105 degrees -yum

also there seems to be a good new grawnolla recipe ,maybe you could try that?

Congratulations on making it through two days!!!

Are you doing Alissa's 30 day challenge? Do you have her book and/or DVD? Or are you following another plan? Her 4 weeks of menus includes chewy things!! So, if you haven't done that yet, I highly recommend it. That's how I personally got started, and it really helped to have the menus all laid out and especially to have snacks and sweets planned for and made.

As to your specific question, you really answered it -- no, popcorn is not raw!!

Is it chewy you want or is it crunchy? You could get both by eating raw almond butter on celery sticks! Or, when you plan ahead, you can soak and sprout some nuts, then toss them with some seasoning and dehydrate them to make crunch, tasty snacks. But .. if you're first starting out and don't have a dehydrator, that'd be kinda hard to do!

Buying some flax crackers or other raw crackers can take care of the crunchy monster, too. Again, if you have a dehydrator, it's way cheaper to make them yourself ... and you'll have a week's worth or more ...

Sorry ... not knowing your situation, it's kinda hard to come up with suggestions other than this. However, searching the threads here will unearth lots of suggestions -- I recall many threads over the last 3 - 4 months where people listed their ideas for snacking.

As I snack on a few dates tonight to quell my sweet tooth, I wish you the best of luck!

I really loved popcorn! I found a recipe on Jinjee's site that I like as a substitue. She calls it fish flakes. It's rolled oats, olive oil and a bit of sea salt. I can't remember the proportions she uses, but I cut down on the oil in mine and end up doing about 1 c. oats and 1/8 c. olive oil. Mix well. I just sprinkle the salt on and sometimes I add nutritional yeast also. (I know some don't use nutritional yeast, but I do!)
Anyway, the fish flakes are good! And they satisfy my popcorn cravings!! :)

Veggiegirl2010, I just can't visualize this. Can you help by describing it a bit more? Like -- what does it look like -- a bowl of oats? Does it clump up? Does it actually taste like fish?

Hey guys..sorry I hadn't checked this thread in a while!
OK...it's like a bowl of oat flakes, sort of. The oil is spread around all of the oats, so it doesn't clump up much. I do eat it with a spoon though. I do dehydrate it so that it is a bit crunchier.
No, it definitely doesn't taste like fish....it just LOOKS like fish food! :D I guess that's why Jinjee called it fish flakes.
I used to put nutritional yeast and sea salt on my popcorn, so when I mix this up, it reminds me of popcorn. My mom likes it too, and she's not raw!
I'll try to find where I found it in Jinjee's journal and give you a link. She may explain it better than me!

(Edited to add that I can't find where I read that on Jinjee's site. I know it was while I was reading her journal, but I just can't come up with it. I'll keep looking though!)
