Vanilla=vanilla Bean?

If I need to put 1 teas. of vanilla in my cake, does it mean that its equal 1 teasp. of bourbon vanilla bean? That's what I put in my cake, and I am not sure, if it's OK. PLEASE ADVISE

Usually, 1 tsp means the vanilla extract. Also:

1 tsp vanilla extract = 1/2 vanilla bean

Another option is to grind the bean in water. A rough estimate is 5 beans per cup of water, then obliterate them in the VitaMix (or blender).:)
