I read an article about cancer. The article says: "About 60% of the drugs used in chemotherapy are of vegetable origin
HELLO?... Can the medical community make it any more clearer?? That is why I think Raw is so amazing! If only more people knew how simple it was to make them selves healthier through what they choose to put into their bodies.. oh man! Words cannot say! I smiled ear to ear reading this article. It was titled
"Ancient remedies still pack punch" I think they always have.. but until we see some more media coming forth and telling people what we already know, those people who think that dr prescribed pills and dangerous medical therapies are the ONLY option.. will not believe foods can cure them. I am sooo happy for this article!! It really made my morning great!
I wanted to share! Sorry I couldn't get the writing in the article in focus with my digital. :o

My husband and i were upset last night after hearing that a friend of ours had cancer.
We know if we could get in touch with her we could hook her up with this forum and it would help her to over come her cancer but she won't answer her phone and she lives out of state.
We were told her hair has fallen out and God knows what else has happened to her body and mind.
Cancer can be cured but chemo is killing people, she use to drink coffee all though the day and she ate out constantly as she was a union lawyer and had to eat on the run.
We will try everything we can to contact her and put her on this forum any suggestions would be helpful.

Hi Bethanie!
I am sorry about your friend. That is terrible news. :( They say cancer has gone down statistically within the last number of years but why is it I hear more and more people are being diagnosed with it? Breaks my heart. Our bodies are like machines. To keep them running smoothly we need to take care of them. I hope she enjoys Alissa's forum. Alissa Rocks!!!

Jenny - know all to well how you felt when you opened the paper to find the article. I was thrilled when I found not one, but two, followed by a list of of orgainic farms/stands on the Island. I personally thanked the editor ~ Cathy

It's great for people to be made aware of what power is in plants...BUT...I personally don't believe the premise of the article. My understanding is that MOST chemo drugs are highly toxic and highly synthetic. A title like that could also make people thing chemo drugs are safe because they are suppossedly from natural sources...that seems a million miles away from the truth to me.

GlimR,
I agree. I don't think chemo is healthy. The article was saying that vegetables origins within medications are the solution to the major problem of synthetic drugs being toxic. I'm not sure if they are trying to say that all medications should be "holistic" or what not but it was a good read. The article did praise Willow's bark, turmeric spice and Artemisinin. I suppose they want to take the molecule for Artemisinin and use it to fight disease. Maybe some day soon chemo will be a thing of the past. YAY!! Actually at the end of the article it says:
"Turmeric could be a major breakthrough in the prevention and treatment of cancer" wow!!
Thanks for reading and posting in this thread. Enjoy your day :o

That really is great!! My mother is 87. She has fibromyagia and some age degenerative arthritis. She is on NO medications for anything!! She recently started using white willow bark, at my suggestion, and is having some relief and sleeping better....so much better than using synthetic asparin.

Greetings to everyone!
In my family I have a mother who has had one breast removed (Stage 1) who fortunately did not need the chemotherapy & radiation..
Her sister, my aunt, never felt the need for mamograms, & when she was finally diagnosed with Stage 3 cancer some 8 months after first feeling a lump in her breast (extreme denial), she lasted only 11 months or so before succumbing..
My sister seems to be heading down the same road as my aunt..She will not have a mamogram performed even with our family history, & knowing the risks that she is putting herself at..
My aunt would not let any of the men in our family visit her after diagnosis (she was a fairly vain woman when alive & I suppose that she didn't want us to see her when she was less that her best)..She went through chemo, radiation, the whole 9 yards..
By all accounts related to me by my mother, sister, & another aunt (only ones allowed to visit) my aunt suffered not only the physical pain associated with dying from cancer & it's concommitant treatments, but extreme physic pain as those around her observed her dininished looks while she was in their care..
It is my opinion from my research into a raw diet that those eating one will severly reduce, if not eliminate, the possibility of contracting cancers in the first place..
Those persons eating a SAD diet diagnosed wih cancer have a really good chance (50% or better?) of eliminating the cancer altogether by switching to a raw diet..
There are just too many documented cases over the last 10-20 years testifying to this, but somehow the conventional medical system & the drug manufacturers have been able to marginalise them into insignifigance..
All we can do as raw foodists is to gently try to inform those closest to us with cancer that there IS another alternative to radiation & chemotherapy, & hope that they are receptive..
As a former medic in the U.S. Army who has seen two people die from cancer over a 3 month period close up while working on the male surgical ward of an Army hospital, as well as nursing a brother for 5 1/2 months as he died of AIDS; I can say to you that I don't have a lot of confidence in our Western system of medicine..
Most physicians (99% or more?) in the United States are SO locked into the current system of treating the symptom with drugs & surgeries, & not the underlying cause of the ailment or disease; that they have lost complete sight of the reason for which they stood up after graduation & repeated the Hippocratic Oath ..
Commercialism in medicine REIGNS today!!
Anyone who proposes to attempt a different modality such as homeopathy, naturopathy, Auryavedic, massage, acucpuncture, meditation, eating raw, or any of the other "alternative" choices faces scepticism & ridicule from the "conventional " medical community..
Most of us here in the USA want a "Magic Bullet", an easy to take pill that will not require very much, if ANY personal committment to becoming better or cured..As long as this attitude is the prevailing one I feel that the current system will only continue to grow in strength..
When people wake up & finally realise that all the money being spent on health insurance, doctor visits, drugs, surgeries, in & out patient hospital costs, etc. can be replaced by simple dietary changes, there will be a revolution..
This is not to say that physicians, hospitals, surgery, drugs won't be needed for injuries, catastrophic & otherwise, for they will..
As raw foodists we need to be stong in our committent for ourselves, for our immediate family, for our community, for our country, & for our world!!..
As we grow in numbers day by day, remember to avoid zealotry about this incredible lifestyle..By putting forth our point of view gently so others can make up their minds w/o feeling coerced, I believe that eventually the raw diet will become accepted, "mainstream", the dominant one..
To anyone suffering from, or close to someone suffering from cancer I extend my deepest sympathies & condolences..
Bruce
