so hard my face hurts.
I finally got my mother (who has leukemia) to go raw. She has been a trooper and has been at 100% for two weeks now. It's been slow going, and although I prepare recipes for her she isn't in "love" with anything yet. However she feels better and is losing weight that she wants to lose.
She has to get her white count checked every four months, and it's usually in the 22,000 range. She went today and it was 5,000!!!!!!!!! A healthy person is between 4,000 and 9,000! She hasn't seen numbers like this since getting diagnosed. I can't believe that 2 WEEKS on raw can have an effect like this! I can't wait to see what 2 years does. GO RAW!

Thank you all so much-it's so wonderful to share with those that get it. She has been awesome about it. She was diagnosed over ten years ago. My grandfather and uncle had the same kind. They went the traditional route. My uncle passed away 6 months after diagnosis, while my grandfather lived almost a year and a half. I got my mom on supplements right away (I could be pushier with my mom!) and she's been doing acupuncture, homeopathy and chiropractic. She changed her diet as well-cleaned it up but I so wanted her to go raw. You know what they say though...you can lead a horse to water...
I spent the last couple of years trying to live by example and make yummy things for her. I don't know what just changed recently but she ASKED about it and then decided, on a dime, to do it. I didn't even really know. She called the next day and told me she was 100%! My dad is super supportive and is at about 80% now. He's saying once all the SAD food is gone he'll be 100% with her! I'm so proud of my family!
They say in family soulwork that the youngest heals the entire family. I know that watching my kiddos struggle with allergies and other stuff and OVERCOMING them has really shifted my mother's paradigm (as it has all of ours) I don't love that my kids had to go through tough times, but if healing me and my mother (and possibly my brother at some point) is the end result-I just bless them for being such strong souls and being willing to come here with that purpose. The universe is just so amazing. :D

I'm so happy for you and your mom. It gives me the encouragement to keep approaching my mom..she has some serious health issues that I believe could disappear with raw living.

I absolutely will. The amazing thing is, although sh'es still experiencing a learning curve as it were (tried to make a dish last night without realizing you have to soak the sundried tomatoes-things like that) she says she's not at all tempted to cheat. This is a shocker to me this early on. BUt she says she wakes up every day feeling better and that is all the motivation she needs. IT's funny, because I don't know that her numbers alone would have had an effect....it's the fact that she FEELS good already.
She also has said that this is the first "diet" that isn't about learning to moderate and control. She is intrigued with the fact that everyone on it says how amazing it is to not WANT cooked food. Intuitively I think that is guiding her-if a diet is so great that you aren't seduced dto the dark side for any length of time then it's clearly the right one! She watched Alissa's DVD this past wekend and also got her book. I think that they are affirmations of what I have been saying this whole time. IT's not about changing your food habits, it's about changing your LIFE.

You mentioned in a post that your kids healed allergies and 'other stuff' and I am curious if you would be willing to share what all your family has healed? :D
Well, that's kind of a LONG story...ultimately it all relates to nutritional deficiencies.
My two older kids were on the autism spectrum. They had significant food allergies and my ds had behavioral issues. Dd was tested (but was negative) for cystic fibrosis as she had odd symptoms. She was FTT. Turns out she "just" had celiac disease. I won't say she healed that, but I believe we are on that path with the help of TAT and homeopathy...and of course RAW!
They both had skin stuff, ds had eczema and dd had dermatitis herpetiformis. Neither have either any longer. They had deep circles under their eyes from lack of minerals. No more.
Dd had no very little enamel on her teeth and her hair and nails weren't growing. She's perfectly fine now. After going raw and eliminating gluten of course her teeth have begun to heal. Her hair grows regularly and her nails now need to be clipped.
They both had yeast that was very persistant.
I had a very low functioning liver, which is definitely better. My skin is a million times better and I NEVER get sick anymore.
Removing allergens was the key-but it is amazing how raw expedited their progress. They are now so much more sociable and doing age appropriate things. Of course my family watched their progress and saw what a big deal it was. For me too. They really became different kids after going raw. I think it would have taken ALOT longer on a cooked diet devoid of minerals and vitamins. I just can't say enough good things about getting our food the way nature intended.
