I have a few issues going on...

Allergies/Skin

I am still getting/having breakouts even after going raw. MY diet is meat and dairy free with about 10% of it being cooked foods and over the last week that was a bagel. OTher than that I am all raw all the time. I cannot have raw almonds because it means I get a cold sore pretty much the next day and then one side of my face starts to single. This has happened twice so far since switching to a raw diet. What other alternatives for milk are there? I drink Blue Diamond Almond Milk because I cant risk getting cold sores from raw almonds. The funny thing is that I dont have a problem with roasted almonds/nuts but the raw almonds give me issues.

Alternatives to Almond Milk that taste just as good?

Any thoughts as to why I may be still breaking out?

Weight Loss

I havent lost any weight! Im not sure why either because my diet is really good. GReen smothies, bananas, carrots, Kale, Broccoli, Apples, pears etc etc. In fact Ive gained 3-4 lbs and I am 5'7 and 153 lbs. I want to lose about 15 lbs. I eat more now as a raw foodist whereas when I was losing weight my portions were controlled. What gives?

Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.

My face broke out the first month of going raw. I think the junk was just rising to the surface of my skin. I noticed that if I do eat anything cooked, immediately my skin responds in rebellion to the food. Which makes since being as though the skin is the usually the first responder. As for the weight gain, when the body is first starting to adjust to the rich nutrients, it desires more and so we naturally give it more. Nothing wrong with that. Some people lose, some people gain. We are all different. I juice fasted for 7 days before I went raw so I think it kick started the detox process and I lost weight faster than with eating raw foods alone. Some people don't lose weight when they are detoxing or when the body is healing itself. Give it time and you will see changes.

I have to keep reminding myself all the time that people don't get fat on raw foods, they get fat on SAD foods.

Hey, AvaMax! I noticed you've only joined in August.....girl, be patient! I've been dealing with skin problems for years, and only NOW am I starting to see improvement.....and I still break out occasionally....but it's getting better! This is a process......it won't happen overnight, or even in a few weeks.....for some, they notice immediate improvement, but like Stacy said, we're all different, so just let your body do its thing, and healing will come! As for the weightloss (or lack thereof), I hear ya! When I first went raw (100% no less), I gained....but I was eating far too many nuts and dried fruit.....but I needed to, just to stay raw, so I took it all in stride. You'll find your balance, and when you do, you'll find that you start losing weight, looking better, feeling better, etc. IMHO, you still have to be reasonable with portions, even with raw (I mean eventually, in the beginning, give your body what it asks for if it means staying raw). I've only just started to REALLY listen to my hunger signals, and sometimes that means not eating certain meals, and sometimes that means eating a lot......listen to your body, and things will work out for you! Good luck!
Oh, and about the milks....you can always make seed mylk, cashew mylk, etc.

Alissa highly suggests going 100% raw for 30 days. That 10% could be REALLY messing up your system. Go 100%. All else will follow.

p.s. BUY ALISSA'S BOOK. If you had, you'd know all the answers to these questions. :p And have the recipes for different nut milks.

First, go 100% raw. Make the commitment.

Next get the book.

In it you will find recipes galore for raw living food mylks made from sunflower seeds, almonds, macadamia, cashew... you name it!

Once you do all the above, your symptoms, which all could be a continual detox because you are eating cooked, will surely disappear.

Alissa's book should be your raw food bible. It is mine!

Thanks everyone...

I have Alissa's book and planning to try 100% for 30 days. Its going to be hard so Im trying to find some raw nut bars that can fill me up during the days at work. That's when I fail at it :( Dinner and breakfast are find but just random daily in between snacks... I need more...

My weakness is cheese.... but it makes me BREAK OUT. The iodine I recently found out is what makes me break out from cheese and dairy..

I highly suggest you pick a few recipes, make them, and take them to work. Also, make some green smoothies to take along. No one can do this plan for you and it appears you're already projecting failure. That's a shame.

Plan ahead. Learn a few simple recipes, and think positively! Only YOU can take care of you. You have the weekend to start reading Alissa's book, pick out some easy things to make, plan and do a little shopping.

Dairy from cows is not made for humans and will cause anyone to become sick or breakout because it's loaded with bacteria & pus.

Iodine is something we need and plentiful in sea vegetables. It does not cause you to break out.

This plan is a Vegan lifestyle. NO DAIRY or any animal products. They cause disease.

No offense, but I know what my body reacts to... I may be new to site but not new to how my body reacts to certain things....especially the iodine in cheese. I have had raw goats milk with no problems and I am not lactose intolerant.

ANY FOOD with iodine in it, especially iodized salt... I have ALWAYS broken out in really painful acne. As such I avoid it and can only have it in certain forms. This is my experience.

I am not projecting failure so no need to feel pity or be shameful for me :) . I simply know that as I am starting out on THIS new lifestyle change that cheese is something that I happen to like. But that changes now....

Avocadess Hi
Im really new to this site & to a vegan lifestlye, especially a raw vegan lifestyle. I really feel worried about posting this but feel i have to say that I am finding your posts are making me feel nervous about asking for help or support because Im not yet 100% raw nor have I had the finance available to buy Alissa's book or dvd yet. I am a single mother on welfare so will have to save up for these items. It has taken all year to buy a blender, food processor & dehydrator. I have been relying on internet recipes so far & you tube raw food demos. Raw foodists in the UK often advise that a gradual change of lifestyle is the best way to go raw & stay raw so I dont see how the 10% of cooked food Avamax is having is such a bad thing. The body will detox as long as less bad stuff is going into it than its used to. Part cooked diet will just make detox longer but also less harsh.

Avamax Hi i hope you get some really great responses, some you have already had are very supportive. well done for eating such a high raw diet, iam aiming to be where you are very soon. I have tried oat milk, quinoa milk & also hazelnut milk. I do find the nut milks taste best but some agave nectar will make almost anything more palatable. hope you find the right milk for you.

p.s Angela Stokes has had a fantastic raw food transformation with massive weight loss & her books clearly state that 100% raw was too much of a detox for her bodt to stand initially.

if you live in the us
try the public libraries
i just found out that if a library or its linked up libraries
don't have a book, they can order it
anywhere in the state
my library has 5 holds on alissa's book
i got too impatient and bought it
it is nice to finally have a solid how to book
but money doesn't grow on trees so save it
it is funny because her book is the last thing i bought
i bought all of my appliances, accessories, nuts, etc and then her book.
i am getting ready for the october challenge
i am also new and people on this board are really
friendly, some are blunt, and some are hardcore
it is hard when we only use typed words and you can't
here people's intonation or their facial expressions
  :o :D
you tube is where i learned my first raw recipe
