Hi,
I am new and curious about weight loss. During the 30 day challenge has anyone lost a considerable amount of weight? I have read in a couple of my raw living books that some individuals become very thin and rather quickly. I would like to know if any one has experienced this. If so what is the rebound effect with weight gain (back to what the body considers normal)?
Peace!!

Well, I've been 99% raw for exactly 33 days. I've been 100% raw for 13. In the last week I've lost 12 lbs. I didn't lose any the first 3 weeks. I have a long way before I hit bottom so I'll have to check back in then. ;)

You might go to the journals and look at pics ~ read the journals. That might answer your question.
On the home page there are pics to look at also.

I was raw about 75 % for 4 years, no weight loss, I was 100% raw for one week, I lost 10 pounds, the second week I lost another 5 pounds. in the first 34 days, I lost 30 pounds. I have about 150 more to loose.
I think you loose weight depending on how much you need to loose to be where your body is at a normal range.
I have known people who lost 3 or 4 pounds on raw, only because they were their perfect weight to begin with, but people who need to loose alot of weight, will on 100% raw.

I have been 100% raw for 14 days and gained 1,5 kilos though I have 5 to loose. But these 5 are to make me look very skinny bcs my weight actually meets all medical requirements 54,5 kilos and 164 santimeters high.

As of this morning, I have gone from 188 to 163.5 in a month! I started going raw on April 1st, although I have not been 100% yet. It's still a process for me but I'm getting a lot better! :)

Although I haven't been comepletely raw (about 80%, but did 100% for several days) for my first 30 day challenge, I did lose 18 pounds during that time! Went from 222 down to 204! The journals are an amazing encouragement to me, and maybe to you as well!

Rawdiva,
I lost approx 30 pounds the first two months of being 100% raw. I'm now in my 10th month 100% raw, and my weight hasn't changed. It fluctuates maybe a pound one way or the other now and again, but that's it ... and it doesn't seem to matter how much I eat.
Don't overthink the weight part of this. Focus on eating healthy and feeling great, and the weight will take care of itself.

I wouldn't really go by what medical standards say you should weigh! Every person is different, and have individual make up. For another person, being the same height as you, their ideal weight might be quite different from yours.
So maybe your body needed to gain some weight .... ;)

Good point, not to mention, quite a few folk who appear thinner than some of us actually carry a higher percentage of body fat.

Thanks everyone for responding.
Sometimes it is hard to concentrate on eating healthy not weight. Everyone is so encouraging. I come to this board when the folks around me at work are eating Bar B Que and chips. Ugh!!!!!! My mantra " I am healthy, I am healthy, I am healthy person" ;)

I also wanted to add this,
I went to my doctor yesterday due to chest pains and just not feeling well for the past couple of months. I am scheduled for a stress test and ultra sound on my heart. I have high blood pressure and apparently it has gone haywire. I turned to this board and this way of eating to heal myself. It is absolutely amazing that my cardiologist did not recommend a better way of eating to help me heal. I know that I am overweight and need to lose about 30-40 pounds to feel my very best and to reduce my blood pressure. However there was no mention of healthy eating even when I brought the subject up. What an eye opener for me. I am a little scared but I do know that I have chosen the right path for healing for myself and will get well. I am too young for this and have too much life in me to have this happen.

Rawdiva,
Don't be too hard on your dr - he was trained in america? - then he only had a few hours of nutritional science - and he simply may not know - but you can show him. That is what this is about - changing the paridym.
As a veteran (y'all hear me), your bp will change to the better. Suggestions: don't make weightloss your primary goal as it will happen at it's own pace - depending on what your body has to hold on to - emotionally and well as physically.
Allow yourself to heal through intention, and see what will manifest. You can do nothing on your own, but you can do so much more when you believe!

I so agree. A friend of mine was telling me that she wants to have her stomach stapled, she's at her wit's end. She said she tried eating healthy, lots of salad, no sugar, etc. She did that for four months faithfully and didn't lose a pound! So she gave up on it. I asked her, "How did you feel when you were eating that way?" She said, "Actually, I felt pretty good, some of my health problems started getting better." And then I could see a flicker of realization dawn on her, and I said, 'maybe you were on the right track?"
I really hope she goes back to eating better for her health instead of doing something drastic or unhealthy, like diet pills or something. If she asks me for any suggestions, I'd love to share this raw way of eating with her.

This is my 13th day raw. I don't know about % I have not eaten any cooked food but I did have olives today so I think I read they might not count as raw. Anyway- I have already lost 15 pounds. But more remarkable than that is how "clear" I feel.

Hi
I've started juicing/raw on April 30th, 2005 with a colon cleanse and 1 day fast. I've had no bad "toxic" experiences, and lost 10 lbs since then.
Out of curiosity, I went to the Fit Day site and plugged in my foods. Surprised to see I'm only eating about 1200 calories per day, although my ratio of fats, carbs and protein are not out of whack.
I haven't lost any weight for a week. I'm "stuck" at 183-184 which I know is still way too heavy for me.
Is is possible I am not eating enough, and my body is "hibernating"? Or is this just the way it is for me?
I am focused on the weight issue, because it interferes with just about everything I want to do: I hurt when trying to jog, can't stretch correctly during yoga, etc. You know what I mean!
I'm feeling fine, and I'm patient, but I am interested in knowing if increasing my caloric intake will help me lose weight more quickly since that's my focus right now.
As an aside, I've mentioned this before on another site: I can't believe it took me this long to stick with just raw foods. It's perfect for me, mentally. I have no cravings for anything, I don't feel like I've given up anything, and most of my nutritional needs are met by the wide variety of foods I'm eating.
I also walk 4 miles each morning, and have started an upper body strength training routine as well.
So, any ideas?
Your help is appreciated!!
Jackie

Muscle weighs alot more than fat for it's size, realize that you may be loosing fat, but gaining muscle, so it isn't unusual, for you to either stay the same weight, or even gain weight when you are eating differently AND exercising.

I think so, this is what happened to me (I was 140,still considerd a healthy weight for me ,but I was a musical theatre dancer/ballerina for a long time and was used to weighing 123 ,after a few months I dropped down to 130 and am now 130-135,I wear 5 jr/2-4 /and small sizes though ,so I think im "ok" ,but I would LOVE to get back into threes and ones!
I also think that you start to gain "alive" tissue and lose the "dead" bloated tissue, regardless of weight!

Hi everyone,
Hope all is well. I have been out and have not had a chance to post. I went to the cardiologist and have test after test done. Glad to say I am fine. My blood pressure had been elevated so I was given a better medicine for me and to stabilize the blood pressure. I realized with my scare how short life really is and how I have allowed petty things stress me out. No more. I have been on and off with raw foods, and more off than on. That is going to change as I type this. Anyway, take care!!!!!

I just read this thread for the first time and what strikes me immediately is that when people eat 100% raw, they lose weight. When they're at anything percent other than 100%, their loss is minimal and slow, if any at all.
How simple this is -- yet people just keep on trying to do it their way. As Alissa and other experienced raw counselors have shown over and over -- 100% raw is the way to go for health. If someone has weight to lose, it will happen then ... and, usually, happen fast.
I'm not chiding anyone nor disapproving of anyone, either -- just highighting what is so obvious from the stories in this thread and journals.
Anyone who hasn't totally committed yet, I challenge them to do the 30-Day Challenge (which is to be 100% raw for 30 consecutive days). It'll change your life!

Thanks for all your replies.
As of this morning, I'm down to 181 (2 pounds that finally moved me from my 183-184 "on hold" weight of over a week).
The only thing I've changed is doing 2 green juices per day instead of one, and I made some really raw tahini which I had to consume in the last 3 days or it would spoil!
I'm still running about 1200-ish calories per day, still walking 4 miles, still doing minimal upper body strength exercises (I just run out of time to get serious...well, there's always tomorrow!) and still 100% raw.
I tried a version of Master cleanse last Saturday, which may have had something to do with "jogging" my standstill. Love that lemon!
I may also go more towards the juicing 3-4 times per day for maybe 2-3 days per week. I'll see what my body tells me.
Well, again, thanks for the replies!
Jackie

I think one of the great things about eating raw is that you are released from computing/worrying about calories. You don't need to count them anymore (as long as you stay raw)!! Just eat what you feel like eating. And, as shown by the many posts here and in the journals, lots of people have found that the more we eat (when beginning raw), the more the weight falls off. Just keep adding greens, greens, and more greens and keep exploring the yummy vegetable-based recipes. Maybe try eating only fruits till noon (with the exception of the green drinks and smoothies) if you want to accelerate the weight loss even more.
I'm glad you're experiencing success! 100% raw is the way to go -- it makes all the difference.

So true, RT. I have to pipe in here and say that i started out as 95-100% raw in Jan and lost 15 lbs in the first couple of months. The past two months I dropped down to about 75% raw, (on rare occasion lower) and only lost 5 lbs during that time.
The last week, however, I decided it was time to get back on the wagon at 100% raw, and I have lost 4.5 lbs in 7 days for a total weight loss of 24.5 lbs.
It's just melting off me now. I'm really starting too look like a new person.
So glad to be back!
