With my busy schedule as a homeschooling mom to 7 children, I thought greens smoothies were the answer. I just couldn't find the time for juicing in the mornings, so I found the Boutenkos' book and began making green smoothies - result - daily diarhea. I was wondering if anyone else out there has had this happen. Is this a detox reaction or am I just not cut out for green smoothies?

Thanks!

What is your definition of diarrhea? I'm sincere here. Some people think going 3 times a day is diarrhea. Had a client like that. Was use to going every 3 days so had diarrhea when she was going 3 times a day.

So, what's diarrhea mean to you?

Hey! I homeschool too!

Green smoothies are my favorite raw component, and yes they will make you visit the bathroom more often that what you are used to. I don't consider it to be diarrhea, to me that's just colored water; green smoothie 'byproduct' is just loose and more frequent.

I just love the poop talk. LOL

Okay, I have to jump in too! I homeschool as well, and green smoothies are a life saver! Yes, they do make you go more often, and it's definately softer and looser.
Oh-man, did I just really describe my poop? :p The boys would have loved to be in on this conversation!

ha, ha, that is so true. The definition of diarreah is different for all. When I breast fed my daughter, her bm's were looser than the other babies in our church nursery. The director had only seen formula fed babies' poop and told me every week that my daughter's yellow poop was diarreah. She had never seen breast fed babies' diapers before. But, with the green smoothies, it can as said before, make you looser, and consider it a house cleaning and be glad it is working. lol =)

2 to 3 times per day since starting the smoothies. Feels natural. In fact, I haven't had "real" diarrhea since I went on the smoothies.

Well it isn't really watery, but I am going probably 10-12 times a day on green smoothies and it is painful and griping. I really want to do the smoothies and I am hoping I can remedy this.

you could be just cleaning house, or you might have just gotten some weird bacteria. like when i went to mexico this summer...

is anyone elses poop really green when drinking a lot of green smoothies. this seems so natural instead of poop being dead and brown. funny how i used to view green poop as disgusting and as a sign that something was seriously wrong. now, when my poop is brown, i know that i need to up the green smoothies.

funny how green stuff in general is viewed as disgusting abnormal or wrong. but green is the color of life man.

and ya talking about poop is quite liberating lol. good to have someone other than my mom to talk about it with hahah. shes probably over it lol

What are you putting in the smoothies? I drink them everyday and don't have this problem, although I did somewhat when I first started drinking them. It could just be the diet change is affecting you, and that should change once your body gets use to them.

Yes I have been told that green is normal.

But advancewithcourage, you do have a problem and I don't know what it is.

As someone else asked... what are you putting in your smoothies? Same thing every day? Griping? What does that mean? Gripping? As in pain? Fiber will do that. How long has this been going on?

See, the thing for me is, if something isn't "working" for me, I do something different. Change the fruit, change the greens, find something that does. Not knowing what you ARE doing, kind of hard to suggest what else TO do.

Back in my SAD days, I would often consume inordinate amounts of water, especially on hot summer days. Once I went past the saturation point of what my body could handle, I would find my self on the toilet 6, 8, 10 times over the course of an hour or two.

How much water (between your smoothies and just sipping) are you drinking? Tea? Coffee? Soda? Beer? etc?

Again, back in the SAD days when I drank a half gallon of iced tea a day, I never felt hydrated due to all the caffeine. Sooo, I drank lots of water (and diet coke) on top of the tea. I was probably ALWAYS a glass or two away from the runs.
