View Full Version : Avocado chips?

We are in the middle of dehydrating sweet potato chips right now. My 8-year-old stepson Carlinhos (aka Carlos) is here with me, wondering if there is a way to do avocado chips? I think they may be too soft to make it work, but maybe I'm wrong! We thought we would post just in case. Has anyone tried this?

Thanks in advance for your help! :)

I agree with you. I think they are way too soft and would not "crunch up". Maybe though a coating could be made with the avo and seasonings and massaged onto the potato and used that way? Dunno...
But good thinking on the lad's part!!!

EvaRB,

Oh wait I just found a recipe for these yesterday. Just have to figure out where it was. It looked so divine, if I can't find the link I'll post the recipe as I did a copy and paste in in my recipe section.

Gonna try and find it now. :)

Okay found it, they are called Avocado Fries:

Score!!!

Lucy/Spiralgirl: You two RAWK!

Thank you so much! Carlinhos just passed out, but I will make these first thing in the morning, and he will be thrilled. He's already in heaven with the coconut fudge I made tonight, but my guys have eaten 100% raw for the last two days (although no one but me is fully committed for always!), so I've gotta step it up a notch to keep them coming back for more and not hungry or fulfilled enough to think of any of that SAD/CRAP!

spicyfull and Veganforlife,

Glad I could help. So many people on this board have been so helpful to me. If anyone makes them before I do can you post your results?

I need to get oregano and nutritional yeast, so I decided to wait until this afternoon to make them. Right now we have apple slices in the dehydrator. I hope those come out okay. We made sweet potato chips last night, and dipped them in the zucchini hummus. MMMMMMM.

For breakfast today we had 3 frozen bananas mixed with my version of a chai latte (I used some rooibos chai, so it's not perfectly raw) with almond milk and it was sooooo good. I let the kids have some coconut fudge with it too. It is Sunday after all. :D They both said it was by far the best drink they'd had in their whole lives!!! And way better than the iced soy chais I let them get on occasion at the coffee shop. :)

Man, I just hijacked my own thread! haha

By the way, there are some other great recipes by the same people from the link you provided: rawinspiration.blogspot.com. :)

I purchase the large smooth green avocadoes, the one that are very firm and i slice them lengthwise thick enough to hold salsa.
I sprinkle some nutritional yeast on them and dip salsa, yummy to the tummy.
You can add your seasoning to the salsa.
These avocadoes are smooth and buttery tasting and really hit the spot, the whole up under the weight of the salsa.
Great for t.v. nigh watching or a quick snack:) :)

Bethanie, that is actually a lot like the recipe!

I made the avocado "fries" which I actually am calling avocado poppers. My whole family (including me) thought they were amazing!!! We also had a really tasty fettucini alfrawdo and a tasty salad, then coconut fudge with chocolate sauce for dessert. We had quite a weekend. Tonight will have to be more boring so they don't get spoiled!!! :)

EvaRB,

Thanks, I've seen that one already. Just curious what someone's efforts look like.

Ahhhh. Sorry. We'll have to make it again soon, and I have a digital camera so I don't know why I don't take more pics! When I do, I'll put it up here (if I can figure out how:o )

EvaRB,

Thanks, I'll do the same if I make them soon. Mmmm, I'll have to see if I have a few avocado's I could use. I go crazy when I don't have a ripe avocado lying around and have to wait a few days for them to ripen.

So funny! Me too! I actually am a little bit in panic mode right now because I somehow went from 10-12 avocados to none in the last few days. I ate the last one at lunch...

I made these last night using three avos and the rest of the "breading" I used on a tomato and stuck that in the dehydrator and they look JUST like that photo. I would have taken a picture, but I ate them all between last night and today. They are so very good! The avo just melts in your mouth Really, really good!!!
Those that don't like flax I'm betting ground (coarsely ground) sunflower seed or pumpkin seed would work too as the breading.

Thank you for the recipe! I made these last night & I didn't even have the nutritional yeast. I did half the breading as the recipe says, without the nutritional yeast. Then I added cumin, chili powder, and a tiny bit of cayenne pepper to the rest of the breading. So I had half plain, half spicy!

My hubby hates avocados & tried them. He said this is the only way he'll ever eat them!! YAY! I got some avocado in him! My 2 1/2 yr old doesn't like them either and she ate more of these than anyone else! :D The only one who didn't like them is my 5 1/2 yr old. My sister was over and tried them & liked them too, and she's not raw.

I have another batch of the spicy ones in the dehydrator now. My 2 1/2 yr old saw me putting them in and started giggling and dancing! She cannot wait until they are done! This is a keeper for sure! THANK YOU! My family loves them! We'll convert my 5 1/2 yr old soon enough!

I had made RAWvolution's Famous Onion bread, only chopped the onions fine AND added finely chopped broccoli to the original recipe. I then spread this thick, like 1/2 to 3/4 inch on the teflex sheets and dehydrated it (turning over once) for like 24 hours (or more).
I've been eating these onion broccoli crackers with a dill dip I made (cashews, macadamia nuts, lemon, dill and sea salt) and had a few left. I finely ground them in my FP and cut up my avocado and "breaded" them and they are dehydrating.
These avo chips (fries) are very good!!!

Hello all!

I am new to this forum and saw this thread. I am intrigued, but the link to the recipe doesn't work any longer. Do any of you still have this recipe and if so, would you mind sharing it, either by PM or right here on the board? I have a plethora of avocados right now and thought this recipe would be a nice change. Thank you! :)
