how to coconut question

I got the darn thing open, drained the milk and now how do I get the meat out of the thing. Its barely soft at all.

Is it a dark brown coconut or a young Thai coconut? If the former you can wrap it in a towel and slam it against a cement ground. That will crack it open. For Thai nuts you should be able to spoon it out even if the meat is firm. I've never had trouble getting the ,meat out. (On the other hand, the dark brown coconuts will only give their meat up after lots of beatings!)
