Hello everyone...again. I'm a previous poster but honestly, it was a few years ago and so much has happened in my life since then that I can't remember what my moniker was before. Lol!

I did raw for three months about two years ago and fell off the raw wagon over the holidays. (imagine that!) Then just never got around to getting back on it. The usual litany of excuses...it's winter and it's too cold. I'm going on vacation, I'll do it when I get back. Etc, etc, ad nauseum. Well, during this past year both of my parents, we discovered, have gone into dementia simultaneously and I was the sibling in closest proximity to them. It has been a wild ride and we've now moved the parents to be near my sister in a proper care setting, etc. During the year I have gained weight and my health has suffered significantly. While I was going through all of that I couldn't imagine going back to raw, even though I KNEW it was exactly what my body needed. It was fascinating to me how once the situation was resolved and I felt I had time to take care of myself again, I immediately had thoughts about going back to the raw foods diet. I began again August 30th and so it's been almost three weeks to the day. I've lost 12 pounds already and feel so much better...even with detox.

I always appreciate the support that I find here on this board. Kudos and great thanks to Alissa for doing this. I look forward to many future discussions, sharing, and general mayhem!

Yay! I wasn't around when you were before, but I am so glad you're back! What a great place to be, here getting encouragement to treat yourself well! :)

Agreed that you have a really cool name. :)

PS I have all sorts of romantic ideas about NC since I read The Notebook several years ago. Seems to be a dreamy place to live. If it's not, well, don't crush my dreams. :)

Agreed great name , oh clever one ! I am a new rawbie but have history of dealing with a parent with Alzheimer's. I found my mother in her room one day with a head of raw cauliflower munching away. Interesting as her body must have been craving just that in her disassociated yet clear on some level state.
Good for you for surviving that stress with both parents. Best of luck.

Thank you for all the warm welcomes. I appreciate that very much.

I live in Winston Salem but spent the last five years living in Asheville. And yes, NC is a beautiful place. It's becoming more populated which has pros and cons, but I really enjoy living here.

I'm very happy to report that on my birthday I stepped on the scale to find that I've lost 15 pounds in three weeks on raw! What a GREAT birthday present! :D
I'm not doing anything special besides raw food. My body loves it and is just shedding the excess easily and quickly. I'm practically living on Strawberry Crepes these days (Yummmm!) and I'm taking Alissa's great advice to simply whatever I want whenever I want as long as it is raw.

I'll keep you posted but thank you for all the warmth and support. I greatly appreciate it.
