Hi everyone -

I am doing some experimentation and wanted to check in on theories
that are out there. Let me preface this by saying I am not asking for feedback about whether nuts and dried fruit can or should be combined. Instead, I am comparing these two scenarios:

1) Soaking nuts to remove enzyme inhibitors, then allowing nuts to
dry for 8 hours in refrigerator. Then, combining with soaked dried
fruits.

2)Soaking nuts to remove enzyme inhibitors, then allowing nuts to dry
for 8 hours in refrigerator. Then, combining with unsoaked dried
fruits.

I have always soaked the dried fruits when eating with nuts, believing
it would make them more digestible. I am now wondering if it makes
it more of a juicy fruit, diluting the HCL and other enzymes
necessary to break down the nuts.

So, basically, the question is, which do you think would be more easily digested?

Any thoughts?

Well every book I ever read said that soaking nuts is best especially if they have a brown outter covering. About the dried fruit I have never read that soaking is best, but more water content has to be better I would think. I wonder if it affects the sugar? You would probably eat less of them if they were soaked. Now eating them together this I have some experience with... it causes some uncomfortable side effects. If building HCL levels are your concern I would nix the nuts and use the soaked fruit or better yet fresh fruit and blend it with dark leafy greens. I love the Green for Life book. It really explains the HCL thing really well.

check this out: Nut (fruit) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A nut in botany is a simple dry fruit with one seed (rarely two) in which the ovary wall becomes very hard (stony ... Brazil nut is the seed from a capsule. ...

SO NUTS ARE DRY FRUITS WOW Joz

yea botanically, the definition of a fruit is pretty broad.i think it includes like grains, beans, nuts, etc.

Thanks everyone for the feedback!

Just to clarify...I am not questioning whether to soak nuts. I always soak all nuts. I am also not questioning whether combining is okay, as I know there are different thoughts on that. My question at this point is whether, when combining, if it is better for the dried fruits to be soaked or not. Soaked adds water to the mix which could be difficult for nuts, unsoaked makes a tougher substance to break down....

So far in my personal experiment it seems that soaked is better with the fruit, but it isn't clear yet. I am looking for science on this if anyone has any suggestions...
