Hi Everyone,

Well, I FINALLY got Alissa's book and I am loving it! I have been eating probably 70% raw for the past 4 weeks and this information has given me the boost to go for it 100%! Yikes, it feels like a big leap even writing this...

Anyway, I've been doing gs for myself and my family for the past month. We are loving them and I know a lot of raw families live on these (not solely, but you know what I mean). I just got to the chapter in Alissa's book about food combining and I was disappointed to see that green smoothies (veggies and fruit) are not encouraged. The only veggies that go well with all fruit are in the lettuce catagory. I'm wondering what you all think about this? According to Alissa (please correct me if I misunderstood), you should eat fruit alone, not mixed with the veggies or other food.

If this is true, I'm not sure what to do. The only way I get my little ones to drink these smoothies is by adding lots of fruit. I tried a green juice the other day, and no one liked it!

We haven't been experiencing any trouble from the food combining (no gas or anything like that)...I just want to start off doing what is good for our bodies and build good habits from the start.

Most green smoothies are made with fruit and various leafy greens. Leafy greens are in a category of their own.

All leafy greens are not considered, "vegetables" so you can combine them with fruits. I don't think Brocolli would taste very good with bananas anyways, but I'm sure someone out there likes it. Cucumbers, tomatoes, avocados are all fruits.

I've been putting everything in my gs...green beans, alfalfa sprouts, yes, a little broccoli, kale, chard (pretty much all the veggies my kids won't eat on their own!), plus their favorite fruits...is this bad for them??

My understanding is that food combining becomes an issue if you're in discomfort or something. As a general rule, fruits digest faster the veggies, so if you combine them, some people get bloated, gassy, crampy, etc. If you aren't experiencing any ill effects from mixing it all together, I don't think there's any need to worry over it. You may become more sensitive later on, especially if you're sticking to all raw, but until then ... it's no biggie (atleast, that's my opinion).

does anyone know where i can get a list of "greens"? i'm reading v. boutenko's "green for life" and she has a list of greens on p.102 that her family uses, but it includes items such as bok choy, broccoli, spinach and others that according to the food combining chart in alissa's book are not good to combine with fruit. i'm looking for a list of all greens in the lettuce/celery catagory that can be combined with fruit and cause not problems. thanks!
