So I've recently started on my raw food journey and I'd really like to try some of the more complicated recipes in the book. Does anyone know where in Manhattan I can buy : almond butter, cacao nibs (and or powder), nori sheets, etc or do I just buy them all from Alissa's website?

Hi There,

Okay you can get most of your list from Wholefoods and I go there if I'm doing a big shop. There are some greenmarkets as well, and are ususally my preference. The one on 16th & 3rd is really good I think it's called the Natural Green Market. There's the Westerley Market on 8th & 54th.. it's my personal favorite. Also a chain of health food stores called Healthy Nuts. You can also buy online. Or go to Pure Juice and Takeaway (the cafe of the restaurant Pure Food and Wine) and they sell products and prepared food as well, a little pricey but delish! That's on 17th between Irving & 3rd. They also use Maple Syrup in some of the foods. Bonobo's on 23rd bet 5th and Madison sells prepared foodstuff and maybe some packaged as well. There is also a yoga center on 13th, not sure if it's between 6th and 7th but it sells raw foods and seaweeds as well.

hope that helps you out!

Peace, Love and Light,

xoxox

I know there's a Trader Joe's at Union Square, but I heard it's alway busy. Still, I seem to always be able to find all of my staple nuts etc. there for good prices, so it may be worth the wait. :)

freebird...how cool!!:D Will have to keep in touch. I'm coming the last weekend in October, just for the two days. I know my son is jealously guarding our time together since we don't get to see each other very often and he has surprise plans...not sure what will be happening. He knows I'm doing 100% raw though and I want to do everything I can to make sure I have no reason to blow it, you know what I mean??

I'm stopping in NYC on my way to Boston, maybe I'll stop in one of these places. Are there any quick cafe type raw places where you can get something quick to eat?

The Westerly Market 54th & 8th has prepared raw foods at the juice bar, 24Carrots on W72nd bet Bway and Amsterdam does too, most Whole Foods sometimes have raw food meals in the salad bar. Pure Juice & Takeaway on 17th bet Irving & 3rd. Bonobo's on 23rd between 5th & Madison is awesome. Caravan of Dreams on St Mark's is lovely. There are always fruit stands all over the city or delis that do juices, wheatgrass shots and have fruits and snacks. Quintessence and Raw Soul are lovely too. :D
