Deteriorating Discs

Can they be regenerated or healed? Anybody have any experience with this or know someone? A friend's mom is having this issue and is agreeing to be a guinea pig to receive some sort of back surgery where she'll receive artifical discs. I believe this is something new the docs are doing. I think it's a bad idea. Get this, the docs are paying her a whopping $300 and of course, paying for medical bills! Oooooooo, woooooow! Thanks all for any feedback!

Don't know anything about this. My husband has agreed to be a medical guinea pig for both his diabetes medicine which he thinks has saved his life as well as a new kind of lasik eye surgery and it worked out really well for him. Yes he got little monies and perks. I was always so disgusted with this type thing but it has worked for him and he was desperate.
