Not with raw, but I had a yoga student of mine straigten her spine with yoga. I watched it happen. Over about a three month period. She also did some network chiropractic work. I'm sure raw will be a plus, though. My best to you.

I have scoliosis going in 2 directions. I have severe osteoporosis. A sister who is a decade older also has it and she now broke her hip just from falling. I posted some of what I am learning on the over 50 osteoporosis thread. Basically, if you have scoliosis you will get osteoporosis unless you take extreme prevention measures. (I think there is a link that explains that.) I never heard anything like this when I was young. It is so good that the information is out there now.

There is a type of body work that does straighten people out. It is expensive and I cannot remember the name of it but will post when I do.

Found it! It is called Rolfing. The Ida P Rolf Method of Structural Integration. I knew some people who did this many years ago and seemed to straighten out their spines. If they stayed straight all these many years later I do not know as our paths separated.

Thanks for the input everyone!

Aililiu: my thoughts about Raw and spine alignment- I know that by eating an appropriate balance of nutrients, especially greens, our bodies can straighten, regrow and even repair broken teeth.
Why not our spines? If our central nervous system receives the right amount of needed nutrients, as well as physical help aligning...then why not? :o)

Well, I'm doing it. I'll let you all know how it goes:p

OMG! I forgot that you are in Gilbert! There is a place that does Rolfing in Scottsdale!

well....... im all for raw healing scoliosis if it can!!!

ive also never heard that if you have scoliosis you will end up with osteoporosis. they are both to do with bones but of a different nature.

i guess im really coming across as ignorant here :o

I have an Intermediate Yoga DVD by Elise Browning Miller. She got into Yoga in the first place because of her own severe scoliosis. If she has a beginner's DVD, that would be perfect. She has also produced the Yoga for Scoliosis DVD/Booklet, Yoga for Back Care Booklet, and co-authored the book Yoga: Anytime, Anywhere.
Good luck! I think Yoga is great. I don't have Scoliosis, but have had a long history of back ills. Yoga in the last 5 years has all but given me a new back. It's in better shape than it's ever been in, and I give Yoga the credit. RAW is good for anything that ails you.:D

Good news for you, apparentely that not only enzymes helps to digest but it repairs our body and including scoliosis. I would take extra enzyme if i was you. If you get up such at 2 am for some reason to go to the bathroom, you can take your enzymes then or before any meal. I am reading the rainbow life cuisine book by dr. Cousens, pretty information on how food works, etc...

Something that may sound silly, visuallization is quite powerful TOO.

Blessings

wow, yoga for scoliosis .... i need to look into that!!! yoga is something ive wanted to get into for a while now but never have, for a variety of reasons (some better than others :o )

i plan on being raw for life so that gives my body time to help out the scoliosis if its going to, lol.

and i totally believe in visualization. i dont quite have the knack yet but i think it could be powerful.

thank you :)

luckitri... i have it in two directions too. its a bugger, eh?

Yes I am older and have had other medical problems as well as bad living and now have severe osteoporosis even though most people my age don't know they have it yet. I am in back pain all the time. The doctor said it was cause my osteoporosis is so bad. I am taking the progesterone cream from www.internationalhealth.net instead of the Rx for the condition. Last time I took this cream I was on steroids every day and I did build bone. Just a little over my first scan granted, but considering how steroids eat bone it was a huge achievement. The literature I have been reading says women should start work on their bone health with proper eating while in their teens and twenties. The progesterone cream helps regulate other hormones and stops PMS and helps with depression. It also can help men from getting prostrate.

Even though I was seriously poor at the time, a few years ago I did a series of Rolfing, ten sessions for a grand. At the time I also did work for trade for acupuncture. My headaches, neckaches, back pain subsided greatly and would only flare up if I aggravated them binging on junk food and compulsively cracking joints. It truly helped me to live more comfortably at the time, and also, strangely, helped relieve emotions like working backwards through an equation.

Years ago I had the joy of experiencing Alphabiotics. It's a very advanced and incredible form of spinal alignment done on a slant board with one fluid motion, not the violent twisting crack that normal chiropracters do. It's not easy to find a practicioner. A lot of chiropracters go down to Texas to implement this into their practice but don't advertise it. The Alphabiotic board has a reference list by area.

My friend with pretty bad scoliosis managed to gain several inches in her height in her early forties. Her doctor was very impressed! She taught herself yoga at home. She was diligent but not hardcore.

Greens and seaweed really nuture the spine so that the body isn't sucking precious calcium out of the bones, so raw in general would be supportive of healing scoliosis.

Glad you're communicating about this.

I am 25 and have scoliosis AND osteoperosis. Also have spina bifida. I was going to the chiropractor but he charges $55 per visit and I need to go a few times a week. Can't afford it. It's good to hear all of this info. I started bikram yoga a month ago. I feel great, but what I really really want... is to be taller! Can I really gain a few inches (scoliosis, osteo, spina bifida and all) through yoga?

Please say yes!

Oh, YES, my friend! I truly watched the progression with my friend! And I'm personally most fond of Bikram myself, although I suppose in a perfect world I'd supplement it with a little bit of other yoga. And are you eating your sea vegetables, young lady?:D

Thanks Stina:O)

I started yoga last week and I'm going to a network chiropractor for a little while to help with the alignment. I always had good luck with that type of chiro in the past.
I really need to eat more greens. I love all other kinds of fruits and veggies and I'm loving the greens at a distance right now- trying to overcome the bitterness and finding more ways to enjoy them.

Thanks everyone for the input and the stories:O)

Sea veggies? I love them but confess that I hardly eat enough. Do those help bones and growth?

Sea veggies have minerals that you need for bone growth.

I just posted on the arthritis thread, but it looks like the scoliosis discussion is what I need to hear. I also have some scoliosis (it runs in our family-my sister had a steel rod bolted to her back at age 17 to straighten/stop her curving).

I have a fractured 5th lumbar vertebrae that is arthritic with bone spurs and my spinal curve aggrevates it with making one hip higher than the other. (Lots of motion going on.)

I love the stretching with yoga, but if there is any twisting type poses, it is painful. I used to jog and that is totally out now. Even walking and sitting for too long is challenging. My doctor suggested surgery to clean out the spurs and perhaps to fuse the vertebra.

Has anyone tried this. I also need to recommit to a 100% raw diet. Right now I am about 75%. I know it would help, especially to become even more alkaline.

Everyone's input here is great. Thanks so much.... :p
