I want to get into sprouting, where would be good places to read to get info on how to do it and what I can sprout and all that good stuff? I've loved sprouts all my life, but am too cheap to buy them at the hfs if I can do it myself........................ lol

I went to my Wild Oats Store and found a sprout starter kit. It was a big glass jar with a straining lid and came with a bag of alfalfa seeds for $20. I also googled sprouting and found some good websites. www.wheatgrasskits.com sells the same starter kit I got at Wild Oats. They also sell all sorts of trays and seeds and other supplies.

To be honest, now that I have sprouted some stuff, all you really need is a big bowl to soak the seeds in and a large colander to rinse and drain the sprouts in. The jar is fine, but you have to figure a way to prop it up on its side so the water can drain out....

You can also find charts for how long each seed needs to soak and how many days to sprout online as well. I would start with just buying some alfalfa seeds and using the bowl and colander method. Soak the seeds overnight and then for the next 3-5 days rinse and drain them at least 2-3 times a day to keep them fresh. You can use them once they green up. Then you can decide if you want to buy other kinds of supplies like jars or trays.

I am in no ways a veteran sprouter! I am also just a beginner! Have fun with sprouting!

I am really close to opening up my website. I will be selling sprouting seed and sprout bags and such. If you'd like some more info, email me and I'll send you the how to's. It is definitely an easy thing to do. I can sell right now, but my site isn't active. I agree, I just use a sprouting bag to rinse and then leave it in a colander.
