Hi,

I've had severe seborrheic dermatitis on my scalp since i was young. has improved and gotten worse at different times. usually a neutrogena coal tar hair wash helps knock it out, but i'd rather not put something so harsh on my head anymore and haven't for several years. harsh shampoos cause my hair to fall out in big gobs.

have noticed the scalp issue coming back, which i think/hope may be part of the detox process. does anyone else have this condition or something similar, like craddle cap, that can tell me how raw affected their condition? i'm guessing that staying raw will help clear it up, but i'd just feel a little better hearing how elseone else had a positive resolution to their condition after going raw.

I used to have unusual skin issues as a kid, one of which was seb derm, or something similar. It disappeared for a long time when I started experimenting with different diets. But I did notice it start to come back when eating certain SAD foods.

Overall, a vegan diet does seem to improve my skin conditions. Fattening foods seem to make them worse over time

Hi, I have eczema and am eating maybe 60% raw now. I supplement with spirulina, ground flax, flax seed oil and evening primrose oil, all of which are said to help with skin and inflammation. I'm slowly seeing results. :)

Be sure to check out this (slightly chaotic) site, lots of information: http://www.shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/eczema.htm

Hi

I do have a holistic doctor (not an ND, but a real doctor) who tested me for allergies and I have several food and chemical allergies. Generally, I think they are in check. My biggest issue was gluten. Not sure if this resurgence is because of a food allergy, but I can usually tell when something in my body is reacting to a food. This scalp issue has been lingering for about a month and my diet has been pretty dynamic during that time and it doesn't seem to progress after eating a certain food or anything. I will pay attention to that.

You might try nettles for a week.

Put dried or fresh nettles into a pan, cover with water, bring to a boil, then cover and steep for 10 minutes.

When you wash your hair, pour this strained liquid over your head and rub it into the scalp.

DO NOT RINSE OUT.

You should see and feel a difference within a few applications.

Ya, this site is really good. Quite extensive. You can also try Neem. If you can find pure neem in powdered form, mix it with a little rose water to make a paste and apply that to the scalp. Leave it on over night and then rinse away with warm water in the morning. You'll need to obviously cover your head with something over night. The neem will be all flakey by morning so it will be easy to rinse away.

Hi Pittypat. I get my neem (Azadirachta indica-make sure it says this) powder very cheaply from an Indian market store. Do you have any Indian markets near you? If not its ok, it is very accessible!

Hey all , i never knew that seborrheic dermatitis is another name for dandruff . It's mostly noticeable in the upper part of body due to itching . The reasons behind its causes are not clear , but i did come across this link which i find it quite helpful , http://www.lifemojo.com/lifestyle/seborrhoeic-dermatitis---symptoms-and-causes-123518750

Saying dandruff is S.D. is like saying someone is a little bit pregnant.... S.D. is usually thick, waxy, yellow patches on the scalp, most commomly known as 'cradle cap'. Left untreated it can cause hair loss.

I don't know much about holistic treatments except for olive oil applied to help break down the patches. In addition, there are several very good products available at beauty shops/beauty supply stores. The common 'hair thinning' treatments sold as serum/shampoo/conditioner work well to break down and remove the patches. Clarifying shampoos are good to keep the condition in check.

My daughter has had this condition all her life - and it does not specifically seem to respond to foods. On the other hand she always has eaten a very healthy diet and now is mostly raw diet. She does have multiple allergies but none that are specific to the condition.
