Hi All,
I am Basanti, I was not aware of raw food community until yesterday. I happen to meet an old friend, who had so many good things to tell me about Raw food.
I am a vegetarian, who doesnot like to drink milk ( I just dislike it:( ). However I compensate it with yogurt:) . When I heard about raw food and its positive effects I was immediately intrigued and curious to find out more about it. I am 27 yrs old heading from overweight to obese. I love raw veggies  atleast cucumbers tomatoes carrots lettuce for starters, never really tried eating others raw.
I thought, I am already vegetarian how hard is it going to be to move to raw food, alas, its not really that easy, There are so many things I have to change. For the starters I have decided to start drinking green juice for breakfast for now and try this method for 2 weeks, keeping the other meals as cooked food. Do you think a slower change towards rawfood would be easier than an drastic change from cooked to raw food. What are your suggestions on who i should move to the raw food.
Pardon me for my typos
Cheers
Basanti

Aloha and Welcome to RFT Basanti!!! My first bit of advice is to get Alissa's book and DVD... When I started I had no clue how to go about being raw. I just assumed that meant lots of salads... lots of raw veggies, and fruit...
it is sooo much more! Its' raw icecream made from fruit and nuts, it's raw pizzas, raw calzones, raw enchiladas, raw fudge!!! and on and on!!! it's amazing!!!
reading Alissa's book will help you transition successfully to the raw lifestyle. It will also help answer a lot of questions -- which will help you decide if transitioning slowly or jumping in 100% would work best for you!
so glad you have joined us!!
RAWK ON... and enjoy the ride!!

I Thank you all, so much for your kind and supportive words. Here comes my series of questions
How important is it for me to stick to organics, they are horribly expensive in the small town i live. Is there an alternative?
What are the basic greens I should be looking for, when I go for my shopping?
Nuts? are there any kinds or can I just get them in any store?
What is the difference between pesticide free and organic ?
is a dehydrator must?
For now only so much, wait up for next installment of questions?
Cheers

Thanks!
A dehydrator is not a must. I bought an excalibur a few years back, and hardly have ever used it because I don't really care for dehydrated foods. It's a personal prefrence, not a necessity.
Personally, I don't try and buy organics if they are too expensive. It's better to eat conventional then to eat cooked. That's my reasoning.
Spinach, mustard greens, romaine, red leaf lettuce, arugula are some of the few greens out there. Just use your imagination. There is no hard rule to follow, which makes it SO much easier.
As for nuts, I prefer purchase them where they are kept refridgerated. IF they are stored in bins, they are probably rancid and not even raw to boot. Mostly from online sources is where I like to buy my nuts, seeds and grains. That can be expensive. If you buy from the stores just be careful about rancidity.

Hmm I know what you mean, mabye a slow replacement would be better, first i should try and stick to being raw person, then I can always move to organics once my piggy bank has some meat :(
one more question, what would you your typical food for the day then i mean for Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Exactly.
Smoothies are yummie good for Breakfast.
Another smoothie or some crackers and pate for lunch.
Ice cream with nuts on top for dinner.
How's THAT for a tasty day's worth of meals, hum??

There are raw crackers made with soaked flax seeds and other things. You can get as creative with the recipe as you like - I will add carrots, sunflower seeds, garlic and ginger to my flax crackers and I just love them.
you can also make raw breads - (like a flat bread) you can find many of these recipes right here on RFT.
if you don't have a dehydrator - you can use your oven on it's lowest setting and prop the door open a bit to let out additional heat.
dehydrators are not necessary - but I do love mine and I do love the variety of foods I am able to eat because of it!
you will do great! ;)
Welcome to RFT. I agree with Starfire you need to get Alissa's book and DVD. THat will help you out a bunch!
