I guess you could say deep down, I've always known that raw food is the way to go. Not only would it change my health and lifestyle completely, losing weight would be a tremendous highlight of the whole program.

I've been watching various raw food sites and have subscribed to several things online to keep in the know as far as raw food goes, but I've never been able to get past a few days on raw food. I plan to start on September 17 (my 33rd birthday) and end on December 15. What a wonderful way to begin my 33rd year of life.

For these 90 days, Although I am not part of the raw food boot camp, I plan to stick to the same rules as the participants to begin with. I am limited to 1 banana a day, no avocados, no nuts or seeds, no sprouted seeds... and can have hot tea if whether is cold. I think this is good, otherwise I would spend the 90 days on bananas and avocados, and I really need to train my body not to depend on these items, although I fully plan to use them later on. The program also requires you to walk at least one hour a day, rain or shine, no exceptions. I know this will prove difficult because I work such long hours, but I am determine to make this work.

Just some background information on me: I am currently 32 years old. I will be 33 on September 17, the first day of my raw food diet. I am 5'6" and weigh approximately 210 pounds (it goes down to 203 and up to 212). I have water retention problems, high cholesterol and horrible allergies. I can hardly sleep at night because my sides ache very badly. I think it is because the inflexibility in my back is forcing me to flex in other places. I have been a lacto-ovo vegetarian since I was 14 years old (never could stand meat). I used to run 5 to 6 miles a day and was around 150 pounds, but then a bad back and a broken foot made me give up the running.... and then, 4 years ago, I had a major back surgery. I now have rods, screws, and a metal plate in my back. I am limited in flexibility, and the fact that I have high arches in my feet add more to the discouragement that running may never be possible again. I love hiking when time allows, and when my husband will go (no easy feat!).

With this program, my dream is to be able to really "dream" again. To lose weight and be able to tackle some of the physical things I would like to, and to get rid of the pain and the allergies, lower my cholesterol, and just be.... healthy.

I appreciate any support and encouragement in my endeavor, and would love to have a buddy close by who I could share with.

Thanks!

Welcome Aspire!

Well, I have to say, if, when I began my raw journey, I had to eliminate all those things I wouldn't have lasted a day. I ate ALL that, unlimited, and still eliminated excess weight.

Eating avos, nuts, seeds and bananas... ummm, why do you "need" to train your body not to "depend" on those? The body NEEDS fats and eliminating all fat from your food program is sooo unhealthy. How will you metabolize fat soluble vitamins?

I've gotta say that, imo, you"re coming from a standard diet of restriction where as, the way Alissa teaches it, it's about freedom. Hmmm. Restriction? Freedom? Hmmm. Personally, I'll take freedom anytime.

My question for you is, if you're going to follow someone else's program, why not be there with them? Not saying you're not welcome.. just curious as to why you'd come to Alissa's board where she recommends eating whatever you want, whenever you want long as it's raw. Have you read her book and/or watched her dvd's yet? The are GREAT! She's had so much success with people who have eliminated weight and become SO healthy with her program that she was even spotlighted on the Tyra Banks show.

Whatever you choose I wish you well on your journey.

I think I described myself very clearly... but you really didn't read why I was going to go ahead follow those rules. This idea of raw food isn't entirely new. I've been a vegetarian for most of my life... and vegan at times. I just find that, as I mentioned in my post, that I depend too much on the items that Celena actually says to limit. That's why I thought it was a good idea.

Why am I here? I'm here for the support of fellow raw-foodists and I don't feel it is right to discriminiate against those who seek additional support, regardless of where they started.

Aloha and Welcome RFT Aspire! I enjoyed reading your post. In one sense I understand why you have chosen to follow the guidelines in the boot camp program.... if you are truly comfortable with that and really feel led to follow that... then right on ... way to go and that's awesome!

I think it's pretty amazing that you will be doing this! For me... on a personal note -- as someone completely new to this lifestyle... I needed the freedom Alissas path provides.

I think some people do really well with very defined boundries and in that they find success... and Im rooting for you and everyone following along with that program - it is after all about achieveing vibrant health through raw foods! (what ever path you take to get there!)

for me ... finding Alissas program was a God send. I had tried everything else - literally everything - shy of stapling my stomach or my mouth shut.... and failed at them all and spent thousands of dollars failing....

There is definitely a lot of support here at RFT... lots of knowledge that is shared. blessings on your journey Aspire!

RAWK ON ... and enjoy the ride!!

good luck with your journey! there are so many great stories and tips on this site, if you use the search tool above. i have found so many answers on this site. i came here b/c of alissa's book and the freedom to eat what i want as well as most of the others here.

honestly if you give yourself freedom your body will make the right choices. some days you may want bananas all day and others you may want cucumbers. i am a newbie, but this is what i have felt so far. being raw means that food is not the enemy anymore, it's nourishment, fuel and medicine...so you should eat it all!:)

the biggest achievement so far is making the commitment to yourself which you have done already by setting up the date and the timeline. that is such a positive thing and you will do great!
