For me.
I first lost too much weight and everybody thought that I looked terrible and were really concerned.
Then my weight bottomed and I began to gain a few lbs. This is when I began to get the complements.
It was probably about 6 months for me but I think that if you had weight to loose it would be faster.

samariah,

Don't know if I have "the glow" but my eyes are getting clearer and look bluer and more sparkly. So many people have commented. My clothes are fitting a little better and my attitude is improving. Don't know what to actually attribute it to, but have been doing the green smoothies and it really starts my day off well and helps me hold the energy if that makes sense. Lately, i have been changing out the greens for variety--feel awsome no matter what I end up throwing in there for greens. Have you tried them?

Hmm. I don't see the glow yet, but others have commented. Maybe it takes a while for us to see a difference? I'm on my 3rd 30-day challenge. I do feel the glow inside though...WOOT!

People started commenting about my skin glowing during week 7.

What I meant regarding the weight thing is that if you do not have weight to loose but loose it anyway it will delay the good appearance whereas as if you have it to spare then it should hit faster because you will not look malnourished.

I don't really know how to answer this

I think it comes more from within, from your (high) spirits and strongly beating heart, than it does specifically from the food

Sometimes I'll get it after just a week of raw, sometimes it takes longer

For me it feels like my heart is about to burst with beauty, then I can feel that feeling seeping in to my eyes and body!

(seeping into my eyes sounds weird :D)

Everyone is most likely different. It could also be what you use to wash your face. or if you wear makeup, or just your natural....what's the word....dna code.....chemical makeup? or if you don't wear sunscreen when going outside.

I'm hoping to not have to wear makeup after a few weeks of this.

Are you drinking lots of water? I think some of don't get enough water after we've upped the amount of fiber we're eating. Think of a prune vs. a grape.

People have told me I look better, and say "What have you been doing?", but some days I have that malnourished look, at least in my eyes. For me, drinking more water is essential.

samariah... I look in the mirror and I still don't see the glow that all the rawbies are talkng about... however... others see it. I think many times those of us that have had to overcome issues in our past - or those of us that have been (or are) overweight - we have what I call 'fat mentality'. I look in the mirror and still see the fat girl. and logically I KNOW I've lost weight - the scale says it - my clothes say it.... my husband says it - lol!! ;)

and that mental attitude is a whole 'nother thread I realize --- but I know that this is something I have to overcome. When I look in the mirror the FIRST thing I see is what I am unhappy with, I focus on whatever it is that needs to heal or change... I'm working on that cuz that's not healthy!

but what I do notice is that OTHERS are noticing the glow. My dh comments about it - my gf's also -- but more than anything else - I notice people just staring at me lately ... not saying anything - but everywhere I go... people are just staring at me.... it's weird. (and uncomfortable  ! ) when I pointed it out to dh - he told me -- honey... youre radiant - people are just drawn to it - they can't figure it out ... why you're glowing....

so I go home and loook in the mirror - and well... I still can't see it. Perhaps you are like that and it's actually there - only you are focusing on what you don't like - what you are not happy with...??? Post a pic ... lets take a look... that will be the true test I think! ;) (oh... and yes... drink lots and LOTS of Water!)

lukster.... we are all different. and stress really does a number on us physically and mentally. The last thing you need to do right now is add more stress to your already stressful life. Breathe.... and relax into it... relax into the raw lifestyle. You WILL see changes over time. There is a lot going on in your life - and in your body.

The raw foods can only help and heal you.... and transform you. But you must be patient. If it took over 10 weeks to put the weight on.... then be patient and know that it will take more than 10 weeks to release the weight!
The raw food lifestyle is not a magick bullet... it is a process that we embrace! Embrace it lukster and trust it! Give yourself however much time you need to see the changes ~ you will be sooo glad you kept moving thru this short moment of effort... it will be SOOOO WORTH IT!!

This a a great way to explain it, bodaflower!. This is how I feel, too. Usually after about the second day raw.

Lukster - I too have been raw for over three months and haven't lost a pound. I am also really stressed out. I am trying to maintain the perspective that it may take longer for my body to heal to the point that it will release the excess fat. I feel a little better than I did before raw, and I know I couldn't be eating any healthier, so I am willing to keep trying for a while. Pay attention to what eating raw has already done for you, trust that your body will respond to you taking such good care of it. Feel free to e-mail me privately if you want to commiserate!!!

Here's a good article that points this subject:
http://shazzie.com/raw/articles/tonya.shtml

"People who have been on the raw food lifestyle for several years begin to have a glow, the kind not often seen in middle-aged people. Optimal health is recognized by an emerging radiance. Glow is hard to fake because it is internal. It comes from an abundance of clear, pink, almost transparent cells that light up the face. Only superior blood circulation can bring this transfiguring glow. Several years on the raw food diet will make you look as though you just stepped out of a painting by Renoir--the impressionist best known for his preoccupation with light. "

Patience I suppose is the main thing here :)

Whoa! A few years! I'm going to go suck down some green drinks and help the process alone. Then I'll hang upside like a bat to get the circulation going to my face.....

I think a "glow" of radiance of health is the result of extraordinary health of an individual. I think its an inside job that has a whole lot to do with what an individual is doing on the outside. Some of the outside factors include: food, exercise, fresh air, sunshine, water, mental state and probably other factors I can't think of at the moment. Some of the inside factors include: a clean GI tract, good balance of flora in the gut, clean arteries and blood vessels, a well functioning lymph system, clean lungs, a body that is free of parasites and harmful bacteria, and probably other factors that I can't think of at the moment. I think if a person gets these factors in gear working together then after awhile the body starts working together like a symphony in perfect tune that makes beautiful music and thats when you see that radiance of good health.

I can see a change in my eyes. They seem to have more shine. I just ordered some superfoods that are packed full of minerals and good things so I hope I get the glow from these. I also have been using natural things to moisturaize my skin with such as olive oil and coconut oil. I am not wearing makeup every day, but only when I go out some where for the evening. I still wear mascara and lipstick everyday. I also do not paint my nails anymore, but I buff them to a high shine and they look really nice. Same with my toe nails. My toe nails look so naked.
