Hi and thank you to Alissa for creating this site and for all of you that contribute to it's fun, supportive and creative environment! I have been reading your posts for a while, and I am so glad that I found you!

I have been a vegetarian for 16 years and it has helped me alot in my journey with Crohns Disease. I loved the meat free lifestyle, but the biggest health benefits and the best I felt was during a fast. I would do a water or a juice fast, hating to end it because i knew the results could not be sustained. That is how I was lead to this realization...

...raw living foods are the simplest way to maintain longterm healing reults! Alissa's book, DVD and the people that are drawn to her message board are inspiring! Thank you for your positive, friendly and humorous company! I have yet to stay 100% for long stretches, but I am pleased with the results that I have experienced toward that goal.

Thank you all, Janny

Hey there! I was curious as to how going RAW was effecting your Crohns? A very close friend of mine had it and never would change his diet. Just curious, really.

Thank you all for your words of welcome! Misslinda and Sweetgoddess, you have already been inspirational to me as I visited this site before joining.

Rjyoda, I am not surprised that you friend has not considered changing his diet, very few physicians address the topic when dealing with Crohns. But if my experience can be helpful to someone, I would love them to know that how I eat has made a remarkable difference in my health and stamina.

I was diagnosed with Crohns at age 14, and had severe pain, weightloss and multiple hospitalizations during my first 10 years living with the condition. As I mentioned, I gave up meat quite a while ago. I also realized that wheat and dairy were problematic for me. When I eliminated those three things I could stay in remission for long stretches, and out of the hospital. But it sure is difficult to come up with a cooked vegetarian meal plan without wheat or dairy!!! I would compromise, and then end up with a flare up. I would have to fast for a week or more to get out of pain.

So discovering this way of eating has been marvelous!!! As you know, the recipes never include dairy, processed grains or meat...and there is so much variety. I know it is a personal matter, but at least in my experience, the raw vegetarian lifestyle is very healing. I have done much better that my early physicians ever imagined and have avoided surgery that they believed was unavoidable. I hope you friend will consider testing this way of eating for himself!
